Facts about Uruguay 10:30 - Mar 11 with 1553 viewsKeno

prior to the great Kangaroo invasion did you know Uruguay’s national anthem, which lasts more than five minutes, is the world’s longest in terms of performance duration.

Also it claims to be the birthplace of Tango. I wonder what flavour they made first?

Never been there, but I was led to believe that prior to the kangaroo invasion it was relatively an expensive place to visit.

Remember if you commit a crime there you will face a kangaroo court!

They've a relatively low Covid rate too, so probably a good time to go!

It's another example of a small country that is successful despite its size. It's part of the reason why I think our own separate states could make a go of it alone if they left the Union.

Ach, it's the Scots influence. Once it was just called Bentos (complete with a dispute about how much land on the main lane of town was available for housing) but then a McSuarez from Kirkcudbright moved there. After a few years he had become so naturalised, except for once facet of his language, that when people asked where he was from he replied 'frae Bentos...'.

[edit] Incidentally, I have checked and without Scotland Uruguay is about ten per cent bigger than the remainder of the United Kingdom (even if you haul Northern Ireland in). The real reason those kangaroos are holding off invasion of Uruguay is indyref#2, Scotland leaves, the kangaroos invade...

Also, a great place for meat, especially steaks and the mixed grills.
