Cook finally has a win that’s the biggest aspect of today 17:05 - Mar 13 with 973 viewsMullet

Lots of sloppiness and missed opportunities out there in adverse conditions. The subs seemed obvious to me but didn’t have a big enough effect to really alter the game significantly. I’ll take making hard work of it if results remain good.

He has a big summer ahead regardless, the balance of this squad is way off. Mills laying into the critics of chambers and skuse was possibly the most telling insight today. Consistency across the whole squad would see us back in the championship a while ago.

Yeah there's something missing isn't there? PL couldn't get us ticking and thus far Cook hasn't changed much either. Not a criticism of the later though. He's not had much time on the training ground to really drill into them patterns of play. Hopefully that'll change after next week. With a clear mid week.

Just need to pick up another win Tuesday to get things ticking over again

Agreed, sensible post.

It's amazing how much moaning there has been on here after a win.

Consistency is a big issue. The more time PC gets with them on the training ground, the more I hope we begin to see it sorted. We have far too many that can go from 8/10 to 4/10 within the same game, let alone for a consistent run of games. It's absolutely bonkers we are sitting 6th.

Good point with regards to the subs. How many times this season have we made changes and the players coming on have made a real difference? A preparation issue maybe? Mentality problem?

Dobra is the player we need on the bench. A proper impact player to carry us up the pitch and run at tiring defenders. I know that was supposed to be Bennetts but he is c4ck!

Its because we arent outplaying sides for 90 minutes. Something which apparently we should be doing despite having the same squad all season and training 1.5 days a week.

Cook’s made several changes and they’ve already begun showing positive signs.

- Full backs starting position high and wide
- Full backs looking to overlap
- Higher Defensive line
- Centre Backs carrying the ball into the opposition half (saw this a bit under PL)
- Positivity and direct running on the ball
- More bodies trying to get in the box

We’re going to get stronger as the season goes on. 8/1 to win via the play-offs - worth a punt.

Sound stuff, Cook still has loads to do but has had so little time on the training ground, small steps forward but boy do we need to be deadlier in their half of the pitch! It's amazing we are where we are and things should improve. Balance of squad is key, and I trust Cook to make the right choices and get the best out of the players he keeps and focusses on.

Who’s said this?

I thought today gave us a good insight into how we can play.

Downes’ loss was huge. He was running the show.

Nah, post me some links to save me trying to find these numerous negative posts after the game.

Cheers.

The first 20 minutes showed that the way Town seem to have become conditioned to play is the problem, not the squad. Plenty of neat, 2 touch stuff, a good tempo & an intent to pass the ball constructively. We were beginning to lose it before Downes was injured & reverted to ponderous Town. Disappointing that half time talk didn't lead to a shake-up. Subs were better than last week & both Bennetts & Lankester showed intent to keep & pass the ball. Defence was solid.

I recall hurst and lambert taking 5+ games for a win... especially lambert.

It’s nice to have a manager who knows how to win a football match tbh
