First evening game? 23:11 - Mar 23 with 3863 views | Pendejo | The other week I heard Danny Kelly (yes Talk Sport) waxing lyrical about never forgetting his first evening game. I had to look mine up, I remember clearly my first games home and away but could not place my first evening game. It was 22/03/1977 we beat West Ham 4-1 at home with Mariner scoring a hat trick. For the record 1st game 15/01/77 H Everton we won 2-0 1st away 05/03/77 Arsenal we won 4-1 TWTD

First evening game? on 08:54 - Mar 24 with 3220 views | PJH | I was at the official opening of the Portman Road floodlights against Arsenal on 16th February 1960 so I imagine that was mine. Midweek home games were almost non existent before then but I assume that the floodlights must have been used for Saturday afternoon games, second half anyway. I think my first floodlight away game was probably at Charlton on December 20th 1966.
First evening game? on 09:09 - Mar 24 with 3188 views | Bluespeed225 | One of mine would have been Man City, League Cup 77’. We lost, but I can remember coming up steps in Churmans with my Dad and seeing the lights and the pitch just looking magical. That liniment smell too when they came out. How the hell much did they rub on!

First evening game? on 10:14 - Mar 24 with 3112 views | Beckets | Strange one for me. Against Crystal Palace in March 1968 on a Saturday evening. Think it kicked off at 6.30pm for some reason.

First evening game? on 12:01 - Mar 24 with 3027 views | longtimefan | I remember my first evening match very fondly. 19th September 1973 against Real Madrid. I’d just started Secondary School, and while I’d been going to occasional first team matches for a couple of years, I’d never previously been allowed to go on a school night. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
First evening game? on 12:17 - Mar 24 with 3008 views | judespiveyg | Fairly sure it was Northampton in the League Cup 2010. Won 3-1 and one of only three times I've sat in the Brittania stand. I'm guessing it was during half term because I wasn't allowed to go to the quarter final against West Brom. [Post edited 24 Mar 2021 12:18]

That game on 16/2/71 was a huge disappointment as Town had seen off 1st Division Newcastle & then WBA, both in replays after being drawn away. More of the same looked on order after a 0-0 draw at the Victoria Ground & the replay attracted a crowd of 30,232. 2nd division Hull were to be the opposition in the 6th round so understandably Town were dreaming of Wembley.

Thanks. I had an inkling it was a bigger game than usual. Would have been 10 then so memories of some of our matches from that era are a tad foggy to say the least.

First evening game? on 13:05 - Mar 24 with 2907 views | itfcpaul | Being a life long Town supporter but living nearly 200 miles away, night games were a bit hard really, but from memory, I think the first one was the first game in the Premier League in 2000 against Manchester United, unless it wasn't' a night game and then I have it completely wrong [Post edited 24 Mar 2021 13:23]

Definitely a night game, Tue 22nd August 2000, and one of the best ever atmospheres at Portman Road that I’ve experienced. [Post edited 24 Mar 2021 13:14]

I think you are talking about the first home game after Town's return to the PL. We played Man U in the first 3 seasons of the PL, which began in 1992.

First evening game? on 13:16 - Mar 24 with 2872 views | Perublue | My first floodlit and third game in total was against AS Roma in the UEFA cup......guessing that was around 1983ish .. My first 2 games had been in the area just in front of the exec boxes and this time I was with dad in the extreme right hand corner of churchmans as if looking at the pitch....standing....a whole new world. It took the whole journey home for him to explain why we were out of the cup after winning 3-1 ... ahhhhh the innocence of youth and the patience of a dad. I still blame myself beginning to follow the town at that stage as the start of the slump........sorry everyone [Post edited 24 Mar 2021 13:18]

Ah. I assumed he meant first as in first home game of the season, which was the case in 2000. Edit: And our only home evening match against Man Utd in the Premier League. [Post edited 24 Mar 2021 13:24]

That's the one then, great start and if it wasn't for a badly defended free kick we would have started with a win, great goal by Wilnis by the way

Hmm..Man U were pressing strongly in the 2nd half & I was happy we held on for a draw myself.

That Everton match was my first too. Bit of a wait for my second game and first evening match though - a 0-1 defeat to Chelsea on 28 March '89. My third match we beat Watford in October '89. Don't really remember too much about those first three, although three different stands there (Pioneer, Churchmans, Cobbold). The pitch under floodlights and people carrying milkcrates back home.
