It's refreshing to hear a player admit that, rather than the propaganda that was trotted out week in week out via the official site.

I think this reinforces the view that the squad was overrated and Wilson clearly saw flaws throughout the team.

From reading the article he thinks that the players weren’t weren’t good enough and there was too much tinkering.

Think we all knew that.

My takes from that;

1. I disagree with his claim that they didn't underachieve. We did have a squad capable of at least making the play offs if we had a capable manager in place.

2. Cook lost the players very early on, which explains the dismal form under his guidance. Lets hope he can rectify that over the summer.

I like that he says that even on paper they weren't good enough. All we heard for a long while was 'on paper our squad is the best in the league'. I don't think even that was true.

Apologies, have now edited.

I should have said I disagreed with his claim.

Regarding point two - I find it a tad concerning that Cook told the players early on that he wanted his own players in. Surely, even if you didn’t rate what you have you’ll try to spin them a tale to try to overachieve and then get rid in the summer - even if you did finish in the playoffs etc?

Wilson: If We Keep Playing Like We Did Against Oxford We'll Be There or Thereabouts 21st Feb 2021 11:18
Centre-half James Wilson insists the Blues are in “a really good place” and believes that if they carry on performing as they did in yesterday’s 0-0 home draw with Oxford United they’ll be “there or thereabouts” come the end of the season. 55

Think it's looking increasingly like he came in like a bull in a china shop. Not sure that's always the best apprpach personally and it certainly didn't work here. Let's hope when he does get his own players in that we start to see why he's highly regarded as a manager.

I dont see how you say he lost the players early on.

Ward says the squad weren't good enough and felt they weren't ready yet you expect PC to pretend they are? Doesnt really go together

Apart from it wasnt.

He game them ample time to show what they could do. They let him down.. at that point rightfully he made it known he would be getting his own players in.

Sour grapes imo from wilson for being dropped first by Lambert and then by PC.

He’s 55 and an experienced manager - I would have expected a tad more subtlety - rather than the bull in the China shop approach. Even if he never rated the players they were still only three points off the playoffs.

The new owners sound very supportive but inpatient so Cook will have to start with all engines blazing.

Call me old school, but I dont think this breeds motivation and a willingness to go above and beyond for your manager;

“When the new manager (Paul Cook) came in, he said pretty early that he wanted his own players and he was very honest about it.”

The phrase 'early on' is key in the article.

Of course we are all speculating, and its ok to disagree, but in my view I dont think that approach did anything for out 'promotion chances'.

What gives you the idea the new owners are inpatient?

I doubt Cook will last the season if we aren't in the top 6, but i'm not sure where you've got that impression from.
