I seem to remember an interview in which one of them stated that they support Cook but they demand results - I just interpreted that as being quite demanding on the results front.

They let him down.. at that point rightfully he made it known he would be getting his own players in. Sour grapes imo from wilson for being dropped first by Lambert and then by PC. Mr lovely PC was there when he went in. He showered them with love. Kept partnerships going. Etc. The performances did not improve.. Then we had that important training week after pompy. The players let him down.. that was the turning point.

It could well have been. But even if that was the case, it was still a risky tactic with 13 matches (39 points to play for) still to play. Just my view.

Even after a few very poor games we were still only a few points off the playoffs. The players underachieved but also Cook didn’t perform adequately. Maybe he was too eager to get going or too impatient to close the season for his new ideas to be implemented. But Cook is not faultless. [Post edited 21 May 2021 12:50]

We'll never know will we. Its OK to disagree. I admire your willingness to put 100% of blame on the players and 0% on Cook, but I don't think that balance is right. PC has my support, but he needs to hit the ground running in the new season.

Players have had to much protection. Wilson says to much Lambert tinkering. When you look at league games there wasnt actually that much tinkering. Unless hes talking about when he lost his place.... PC was all nice as pie and hadnt gone into direct PC until the time Wilson was dropped. Seems to be a pattern for when Wilson doesnt like things... I'll blame PC from day 1 of the new season. It will be his squad of his choosing and we will know we will have players interested in winning and believing in themselves. Unlike as Wilson has admitted thinking they weren't ready. Which explains the lack of effort.

tbf Cook is the first to accept his part in the failings. He was obviously shocked by the lack of quality at the club.

I feel that PC should have done better than a 25% win rate in his 16 games, so my initial optimism is tinged with caution. Happy to agree to differ. We are now on the same page that we will judge him next season.

And theres the headline that sums the mindset up on 13:06 - May 21 with 962 views | Darth_Koont | That’s not really a reflection on the mindset but more on the reality of the components of the team and how they came (or didn’t come) together. Mindset probably was an aspect in all of this of course. Headlines are often designed to provoke a reaction rather than act as a fair summary of anything. Frequently they’re not even a fair summary of the article they’re sitting on top of.

Yeah defo on same page for next season. I think for me. PC got out of the squad the same amount of points as Lambert did over the same amount of games despite the takeover and players knowing their futures were elsewhere. PC didnt need to tell them we would be looking to bring in players.. our goal stats showed our problems lol.

And theres the headline that sums the mindset up on 12:26 - May 21 by Garv | I like that he says that even on paper they weren't good enough. All we heard for a long while was 'on paper our squad is the best in the league'. I don't think even that was true. |
It would have been true if Lambert had been doing his job and been actually coaching, motivating, organising and ensuring they were fit rather than dishing out free beer and talking about Celtic and Dortmund. There was enough quality there to go on long unbeaten runs at the start of both seasons in division 3. Trouble is, when other sides achieved true match fitness and gelled, our players had been allowed to coast, lose fitness, been played in multiple formations and systems(or been drilled into an utterly ineffective system) and allegedly go out on the piss and drive home when they should have been working on their fitness. And even if he isn't, it's pretty damning on Lambert that he could neither locate, identify and sign players who WERE despite having the one of the largest, if not the largest budgets in the division or coach and motivate them into being more than the sum of their parts. That said, you can't seriously tell me that Blackpool or Lincolns were better sides 'on paper' than us. [Post edited 22 May 2021 9:35]

What should have happened instead? Hi guys. Weve had a handful of games now. Including a painful 3-1 loss to Gillingham.. sears btw great input thanks for that. Now... I know you've struggled all season to score goals. And I know performances over the past 4 months has been awful to.. and continues to be so. And although we have new rich owners who want us in the champ asap I will be sticking with you lot as your stats and performances since I've been here have been so impressive and continues your impressive overall season stats . So dont worry about your contracts.

Isn't it the manager's job to get their players (of whatever quality) believing in themselves and each other and to buy in to what they're doing?

Managers can try their best. Sometimes it can work. Sometimes short term. See Mick at Cardiff. Sometimes it's mixed.. see cowleys at pompy PC as shown towards the end.. was getting a response. But funnily enough only once the playoffs were off and suddenly the players decided they fancied playing for contracts all of a sudden.
