Interesting fact about ABBA. Had the members been named Norma, Edmund, Karl and Olivia, Waterloo might have been sung by KENO.

Saint Pancras was a 14-year-old boy who had converted to Christianity and would not renounce his faith. As a result, he was beheaded by Diocletian in Rome in 304AD. He is the patron saint of children. St Pancras is a Greek name meaning 'the one that holds everything'.

Indeed, a worthy example of a classic defensive battle, with a largely disparate force of outgunned Allies (not outnumbered though, which was Napoleon's main problem). Commanded by an already proven good general, using the terrain to their advantage and who were mosty able to hang on to their assigned positions through no little skill, luck and courage until the reinforcements arrived literally late in the day (early evening) to win the battle.

But you were there so knew that, right?

Were you on Blucher's staff perchance?

Blücher should be remembered in history for pioneering the strategy, later perfected by the Americans, of turning up late after, all the hard work was done, and claiming the victory.

Lol, 2 world (European) wars, neither of which the yanks would of joined if given the choice. They have large and politically influential communities of Germans and especially Irish.

In both World Wars the Germans made the US fight. The extension of attacks to neutral shipping in the Atlantic led to their entry into the First WW, and in the second Germany actually declared war on them.

Tho Gneisenau was the organisational genius who got the Prussian army back to Wavre and then across to Mont St Jean. Even if he was less enthusiastic about supporting Wellington than Blucher.

My point stands that the Americans would never have joined in the "European wars" if given the choice.

The combatants were their competitors, large and influential numbers of the public were anti-British and they were making a lot of money whilst not involved.

Napolean's dose of narcotics on the day probably influenced things too.

He had an illegitimate daughter, who he never acknowledged as his, born exactly one year to the day after Waterloo.
