If your son, who keeps swearing at you to be deliberately naughty cos hes just learnt cuss words, calls you a rude word, don't call him a 'little sh1t' back, even if you meant it light-heartedly.

He's just got home and is still cross with me.

I appreciate that most people don't need to learn this lesson, but today I did.

Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

He's much respected on here for opting against supporting Norwich.

"You're just scum", whilst not very pleasant to hear coming from one so young, isn't actually swearing. I suggest you suck it up and accept he's got his head screwed on.

Rather than swearing at my offspring I found giving a few lashes of a heavy leather belt worked.

Now they are adults I reap my reward as they queue up to give me a hiding...

Kidding of course, only 1 of my 4 swears regularly but he's definitely on the autistic scale and loses his temper way too easily.

Arf!

My littleun is almost swearing out of habit now, despite everything we've tried to teach him. I spose my cock-up will have set the cause back by months now.

All the best to your possibly autistic boy.

I swore at my mum once and when my dad came home he gave me a whack. I never did it again. That was forty five years ago when I was ten years old. Good old fashioned discipline in those days which worked.

Is it things like "F-sake... do we have to watch that crap at Carrot Road again next season? They're f-in useless whenever they're promoted... Can't we just give it a miss and wait until we've plummeted back into the f-in championship again?"

Ouch, but I can see why it worked tbh. That's not to condone it and I'd never hit mine, but what do you do if they just won't stop?

Ask him if he wants to feel the back of your hand if he keeps doing it... that's not actually doing it, but the threat being there might make him think twice about it?

You should say that you just don't tolerate swearing, and although you don't like resorting to violence, you weren't afraid to give your sister a banging when she used to say "F*** me!" all the time...

The lesson may have been well learned for you, but the trouble is that for many the lesson learned would be that violence gets you what you want.

We've just just found out our lad (13) is using some rather ripe words on his friends Whatsapp group. His mum is livid, with me. And I can't blame her as I swear like a trooper, so it's really hard when she tells me I 'have to have a word' with him. Mainly because most of my words are four letter ones, so I'm hardly a role model.

I'm going to hate being a parent to teenagers. Too late to pull out I suppose?
