Ronaldo only just less so talent-wise but overtakes Messi due to his commitment to the craft and laser-like focus.
I genuinely don't get this argument. Messi is also incredibly focused and committed to the game, you don't achieve what he's achieved otherwise. Those are rather odd criteria by which to judge a player anyway, you must think Maradona was hopeless using those criteria.
I’d go with Cristiano simply because of his champions league successes. To win it 5 times, whilst scoring 134 goals in the competition across his career, is absolutely incredible.

Messi is considerably better, not even a debate. Messi isn't even a Goal scorer primarily like Ronaldo and still I think is only just behind him in career goals in less games. Any other metric, Messi is better

He's better just in terms of goalscoring. That's the one area Ronaldo should have an edge and he doesn't. I honestly don't see any good argument for thinking Ronaldo is better.

Even then, certain stats don't prove that Ronaldo is better. Statistically Messi is a better finisher.

Sorry, meant that Messi is better even as a goalscorer. Goals per game over their careers he has a clear edge. And that's not taking into account that he's better at almost everything else as well.

That's a weak argument. Messi has scored 29 goals in 33 finals, including scoring in two of his three CL final appearances. He turns up plenty in big games, he just doesn't make a big fuss and show of himself when tucking away a penalty to seal a 4-1 his teammates have worked hard for.

Ronaldo is a machine, he works tirelessly and never seems to have a day off. Look at his physique compared to Messi. He is rentless. Listen to how he speaks in interviews, he is so incredibly focussed that he is even calling out his 9 yo son who occasionally has a Coca-Cola.
Having seen Messi live probably close to 50 times I can honestly say he is the most talented player I have ever seen and there is no way I am questioning his commitment to the craft. Just for me Ronaldo edges it as 'best' players. If the question was most 'talented' it would be Messi. This is coming from somebody who has goes to the nou camp 3/4 times a year (dad was a massive Barca fan)
Either way they are both outstanding players and may have even scored against Newport tonight 🤣
