Strange one isn't it, clearly a nice guy but not elite.

Was listening to a pod earlier and questions were asked to fans of clubs in the lower echelons of the PL and Championship about would they have him and the vast majority said no.

Now, going down even further to us, if for whatever reason Cook went, would you be happy with Solskjaer? Don't think I would, which is insane given he's the current Utd manager.

Agree, although I’d also be alarmed if Xavi was appointed and he’s about to become manager of Barcelona!

Especially when you get the impression he doesn't seem overly keen on the job right now, and can't blame him.

Tough one, the get the old legends to come and manage isn't it, clearly not working for Ole, Frank didn't last long at Chelsea, Shearer at Newcastle, which makes the Dyer talk from a while back a little concerning.

Albeit, Kieron coming in to a club like us is vastly different than Ole going in at Utd given the expectations between the two.

Plus there are many successful examples... Zidane, Howe, Burley to name a few.

Gunn was the best though.

To be fair, Burley had done well at two clubs before joining us.

Frank was at Derby, before getting the Chelsea gig. So didn't think that was a point. In that case Howe also left and came back to Bournemouth after a failed stint elsewhere, I think... So only Zidane would hold up in those examples by the new clauses

Also, didn't Ole manage Cardiff?

Would add that jobs are not equal, managing at the top level is a completely different gig to League One. Dyer coming in here would be wildly different to those examples in terms of expectation and what is required from them

Going off on a tangent but it’s quite possible that Guardiola would be an awful choice of manager for Ipswich as he may not be able to adapt. Personally I suspect he probably would and he’d no doubt have players falling over themselves to play for him but if in some mental hypothetical world our next manager choice was between Pep and say, Sean Dyche, I wouldn’t dismiss the notion that Dyche could be a better choice. Whereas if it was the Barca job…

Manager Swap - a manager from a top PL club (Guardiola, Tuchel, Klopp) swaps places with a top L1 coach (Cook, Appleton, Hasselbaink) for a season - I reckon I could pitch that one to Amazon or Netflix...

If I were the Newcastle owners then Xavi would have been my choice for their manager although a big risk for their current position, think you could build a good project with him. I can see him going on to be a decent manager but maybe not with Barça straight away as their team is a shambles.

Solksjaer got the job effectively because he scored a goal in 1999 and has had the "one of our own" patience since then.

Clearly not qualified to be manager of Man Utd based on previous experience, but Man Utd needed someone to bring the fans back on board when he was appointed.

Brendan Rodgers is apparently a favourite to replace him, but I wonder with him if he'd get the same Moyes treatment. Not a big enough name for Utd, so he'd be on the defensive from Day 1.

The state of this post. Cherry picked examples comparing big Prem clubs to us in league one.

Dyer would be a risk obviously but that was a car crash

I dunno, I think he has enough about him to be manager of Utd, the only caveat would be if the fans would take him given his Liverpool ties.

To be fair, where does Rodgers go from Leicester, realistically it's Utd or maybe he'd fancy the Newcastle gig.

I think Newcastle would be a step backwards from Leicester for Rodgers, how about he just stays put and carries on a rebuild to the city's slightly ageing squad?

I also think that would be the best thing for Solskjær and Man. Utd., just look at how well Moyes is doing at West Ham now that he has shaken off the unwarranted lack of patience that was shown to him at Old Trafford. The top of the Premier League is the most crowded it has ever been and the Mancs (at City as well as United) are going to have to get used to no guaranteed place at the top table (as Leicester, Tottenham and Everton are having to.) But Solskjær does have to find a way to move, good player as he is, Pogba on and rest Ronaldo every other game or so.

Poll: What was in Wes Burns' imaginary cup of tea ?
