Yes I have a lot of respect for Maugham and others who have the balls to shine a light on to the darkness. But the ultimate feeling is one of frustration. After the twitter outrage from decent folk there will be zero consequences. Zero.

How could this just be ignored though? Doesn't it break any rules? (I know nothing). Agree about Maugham totally.

In the States you'd probably get 20 years inside for something like this. How we can allow it just boggles my bonce.

A very good egg except when murdering animals with a spade! Besides that he's done some great stuff (and the two aren't linked of course, but the opening was too good to miss). His and the Goof Law Project's work on trying to hold this corrupt government to account is invaluable. Top stuff. It would be nice if there were some significant consequences, both in therm of persecutions and the electorate waking up. I'm not holding my breath on either.

Must have missed that! But 'clubbed a fox to death wearing a kimono on Boxing Day morning' were words I never thought I'd read in the same sentence.

That side is bad enough, but the brass neck to actually stand up in the HoC and flat out deny it, say it is just a smear etc should be a sackable offence. Just outright lying, and no consequences. Corruption is bad enough, but this on top as well is just beyond the pale

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten the detail. His wife's satin kimono nonetheless! (let's face it, who hasn't been there?).

There were some Covid emergency powers over contract awards. I did some myself. All 'normal' oversight was removed. Not to my mates and not to some of the stupid values seen, but I can see how it did happen

The Government still had plenty of suppliers sitting on already established frameworks though, didn't they? I'm guessing this bloke was not on any framework.

Matt Hancock then on 17:03 - Dec 1 with 883 views | Swansea_Blue | More updates from throughout the day. This little episode illustrates quite nicely how parliament is utterly unfit to regulate itself. Halfcock called back to the chamber to set the record straight. Which he duly did, with this response. https://parliamentlive.tv/event/index/1cca9bf5-0921-4302-90c1-9848a9ab3463?in=14 Which is taken as read, and the end of the matter for the House seemingly. With Anneliese Dodds getting a ticking off from the chair for not acting honourably (lol). Yet the contract between the government and the supplier (Alpha Laboratories) states explicitly that the contract had to be subcontracted to Halfcock's publican friend's company. No mention of that at all in the House. Surely this has to go through the Commissioner for Standards at the very least, even if she does seem to have lost her nerve lately. It's so transparently corrupt. [edited to remove the 'So' at the beginning of the first sentence lol] [Post edited 1 Dec 2021 17:27]
