The most interesting thing 11:31 - Dec 20 with 3227 views | chicoazul | About this article is it mentions 68% of top flight footballers have been double vaxxed That’s almost exactly the same % as have been for the total UK population And yet it now seems premier league footballers are the latest scapegoats for any possible rise in infections and therefor cancellation of fixtures Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel: Not postponing games over Covid-19 is a safety risk Edit: ugh why don’t the bbc let you paste a link from their app [Post edited 20 Dec 2021 11:35]

The most interesting thing on 11:40 - Dec 20 with 2541 views | StokieBlue | I think that stat is rather misleading because that 68% includes 12-15 year olds who have only been able to get their second vaccination from today. If you compare adult population to footballers then it's 68% to over 80%. SB [Post edited 20 Dec 2021 11:40]

The most interesting thing on 11:40 - Dec 20 with 2516 views | BlueySwede | No excuse for footballers or "regular people" to not be double vaccinated. Also, I read 59% of the footballers in another article somewhere. Surely the clubs must do everything they can to get their players vaccinated?

Why are so many people confused by this? I said the % number of PL footballers who have been double jabbed is almost exactly the same as the % number of the total population of the country who have been double jabbed.

It's a clearly unfair comparison though because one side of the equation includes cohorts who aren't eligible to be double vaccinated. SB

Vaccine takeup is 68% higher among footballers than when compared to babies.

But that's comparing apples with oranges. Declaring the percentages to be equivalent is not an accurate representation of the situation. Professional footballers (all adults) are clearly double-vaccinated at a lower rate than the UK adult population. However, if you look only at the percentages for males in the 18-35 age bracket in England - to which professional footballers mostly belong - it does support your original point, as the figures to 12th December 2021 (averages from three columns in the original graph) comes out at 68.47%. Saying PL footballers are almost exactly double jabbed at the same rate as the entire UK is not comparing apples with oranges, it’s a statement of fact. They’re now getting the tacit blame for the coming football shutdown is an opinion.

If you (or the original article) had said they are double-vaccinated at the same rate as all males of their agegroup in England, it would have been exactly correct. Thus the main thrust of your OP is right, they are being wrongly scapegoated.

It may be a misleading statement of facts but it is in reality false as between 10-11% of the population, due to being under 12, are not eligible for vaccination while every professional footballer is.

This sounds clever but is wrong. Some people are ineligible for the vaccine.

You've gotten this entirely wrong and rather than admit it you accuse others of lack of comprehension. It's rather rude. SB

It’s not wrong. It’s an opinion based on arguments I see invoking a comparison between two simple sets of people; footballers and the population of the UK. I know you can’t stand opinions as you can’t quantify them but that’s life.
