Surely Pleasurewood Hills dear chap. He's clearly tall enough for all the rides.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

He can even sleep in mother's box room if he fancies making a day of it. Although I wouldn't trust the Rattlesnake these days. He'd be out with serious injuries riding that thing. Maybe just stick to the log flume and pirate ship.

Andy Warren dropping something more positive on Walton on 13:23 - Jan 4 with 3027 views | jayessess | This makes a lot more sense to me than a lot of the rumours going round. We know that Brighton were keen to sell Walton in the Summer but couldn't find a buyer. In the mean time Walton's done nothing in particular that will have made him a more appealing target for a Championship side and is six months closer to the end of his contract. I can't see why a new suitor will have suddenly appeared, desperate to spend money on a keeper that they could have had on loan last Summer and could get on a free next Summer. We also know that no-one in the bottom half of the Championship has any money. The only club Brighton has leverage over here is the one that would be most disrupted by Walton moving - us.

Could be a move that works for all parties - they get a fee for someone out of contract in the summer, he gets a Championship contract albeit playing in L1 and we get a keeper for the next 5+ years below his market value. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Presumably we've got him in the Summer because we were the ones prepared to cover wages and loan fee, which was the next best thing to a permanent transfer for Brighton.

Yeah and I doubt there are many if any Championship clubs looking for a new number 1 - probably a pretty expensive option for them to bring in as a number 2 and not a role Walton would want to play.

Massively tedious of Brighton, a club that turns over £125-150m a year, essentially trying to play Ipswich, Luton and Peterborough off against each other for what will probably no more than £50k once you've deducted the loan fee we'll have originally agreed.

Does seem weird but that's modern football I guess. One things is I presume we have more money to spend than luton and posh, so fee shouldn't be a problem and Walton is reportedly keen on staying. The wages will be the problem imo

If the wages are a problem for us they definitely will be for Luton/Posh. I suspect it's going to drag on a bit. Walton's best served financially by letting his Brighton contract run out and then taking offers as a free agent in the Summer. Brighton want a fee but have very little leverage over Walton. We're stuck in the middle trying to please both parties, without over-spending but also in danger of losing our current starting goalkeeper.

In terms of wages I don't mean affording them, I mean keeping them in line with league 1 wage cap. I think we are pretty much at max aren't we? So presume will need to offload a few to keep in line with it

We are in the box seat here, and with Ashton and co, should play our cards right this time. Similar in reverse to the Bart situation where we got rolled over previously - don’t see that happening here though. - if need be we sit tight, other options will be available, and we can wait until the summer if needed when Walton becomes a free agent - unlikely to be other takers in January where Walton would be immediate first choice and affordable Brighton like us with Bart will want to do a deal, and only have one taker.

We might already be paying most of his wages! Can't see why Brighton would've sanctioned his loan move if we weren't covering a significant proportion If we sign him permanently then we'd be writing a new contract, which presumably would have to reflect whatever his agent reckons he could get as a free agent, rather than what Brighton are paying him now.

That’s what grown-up professional football clubs do.

Yep and in the same situation I’d want us to do it. Just a shame it’s a tinpot club like Brighton in that position.

Well... a "grown-up professional football club" is probably more realistic about what value they can realise on Walton much earlier than the final 6 months of his contract, thus not getting themselves in this situation in the first place.
