What did we think of Piggots cameo? Where to improve from Saturday 12:59 - Jan 10 with 1424 views | unstableblue | Saturday is going to be a very different kettle of fish to the Gills. Their press was awful so we were able to pass at will. I was shocked by how they stood off us in the first 5-10 mins allowing us to completely settle. Bolton will not do the same, or be the same. Will be interesting to see how they fair in the game Tuesday night, Wycombe I think. I hope our lads want to prove a point after the debacle of our home defeat. But the shape issues of that day won’t be repeated in a five at the back. KVY also had a mare. We win up there and we’ll start to get excited. Where would you try and tweak/improve? It’s definitely those silly fouls in dangerous areas we saw in last 10 of first half, which McKenna mentioned. I think also we can improve cohesion across the front 5, sounds ridiculous when we’ve scored 4, but in tighter games we need to pounce on dangerous passages of play, and often there was miscommunication. Obviously not in the purringly good first three goals. Penney could be more confident, he was the one player going for the less forward option on occasion. More centre backs and more Morsy breaking the lines? It’s our new secret weapon and I can’t get enough of it!!! Expect Bolton to really target this and also Bonne and Aluko. What did you think of Piggot, looked off the pace again, 2 or 3 errors or loose control. Then a superb threaded pass and then he basically won us a penalty with some nice going to ground! LAMDA merit award. I’m still convinced he’ll have his day. All very exciting at Town at present... which makes a frickin change

They are in woeful form, sit 17th in the league and decimated by injuries. It might be more difficult than Gillingham, but it ain’t Barcelona…
What did we think of Piggots cameo? Where to improve from Saturday on 13:07 - Jan 10 with 1329 views | hoppy | I did wonder, at 3-0 up, when he'd won the penalty as to why he didn't take it himself. I know he's had a poor record with penalties since he's been with us, but if he'd scored it would have been a confidence booster, and if he'd missed, we'd know he wouldn't be relied on for penalty duty in a game when it mattered, as they were hardly going to get back into the game, given the scoreline and time left on the clock.

If you watch the game again, you see Morsy asking Chaplin to do something and then shrug and look across to what I think was Pigott.

Far better technically than you give him credit for. He'll do well for KM.

What did we think of Piggots cameo? Where to improve from Saturday on 13:22 - Jan 10 with 1185 views | clive_baker | Pigott looks like he's running in treacle. Probably not helped by a lack of game time, and definitely offers something different from the bench by way of his physicality, but I'm not sure he's got the speed of thought or execution to complient this system. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few faces move on in the next 3 weeks. Fraser, Kenlock, Jackson are obvious candidates. Perhaps El Miz on loan. Barry's gone already of course. Nolan if anyone is willing to take a punt on him, although that's probably unlikely given his lack of game time. I wouldn't rule Pigott out either if we got a decent offer. As for Gillingham standing off us, yes they were absolutely dire. Carayol's contribution for the first goal was so bad. And how easily did Bonne turn his man for the 2nd? They're a properly pony side.

Winning a penalty and creating a gilt edge chance for Morsy doesn't seem a bad ten minutes work to me.

He's a strange one because he signed a 3 year deal after Championship interest so would assume he's on a decent wedge. This was his big move after floating around the lower leagues earning relatively little until the age of 27. I struggle to see there being a deal that works for all parties for him to go elsewhere. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
What did we think of Piggots cameo? Where to improve from Saturday on 13:28 - Jan 10 with 1133 views | Herbivore | Thought Piggot grew into the game, he looked really rusty initially and was trying too much but he won us the penalty and did really well to put a chance on a plate for Morsy, and I still haven't fully worked out how he didn't score there. It's a bit of a Catch-22 with him though. He probably needs minutes to really get him up to speed and firing but because he's not fully at it he doesn't really justify getting those minutes at the moment. For all Norwood's faults and limitations, he came on and scored a goal when he got a chance from the bench and he's not looked back since. Piggot hasn't had the same impact when given chances from the bench. Ideally we'd race into a 3-0 half time lead every week so he can get half an hour at least second half to play away some of the rust and find some form.

That's my view, understandably rusty when he came on then one excellent threaded pass, wins a penalty, sets up a superb chance. Think Mckenna will have liked what he saw overall.

I expect them to call the game off then..... a few magic positive tests.

Agree with all that. The big questions are I guess: does he fit McKenna's style? and can he partner Norwood or Bonne (note: one of those may get injured or drop out of form)? I'm not sure Piggot suits the high press, that mad running down defenders and keepers that our current front two love. He's more of a pivot striker, less instinctive than Norwood. Time will tell.

I would suggest that he's an extremely good 'alternative' striker if Plan A isn't working. Whether he would be happy in that role I don't know. As an aside, Murphy was more than happy to put a shift in. I suspect Piggot would be happy to adapt his game if it meant more game time, chances etc etc

Well yes, but we are playing Bolton now was my point. We took apart Portsmouth and Wycombe and they are still ahead of us. Bolton are 17th and in some of the worst form in the division

I did think the same. I presumed he would take it as he won the penalty, and as already 3-0 up, it wasn't like the game was riding on it. I do quite like the confidence of Chappers taking it, and tbf, I do think he was chosen penalty taker with the remaining players on the pitch. But would of been great for Pigott to get a goal, hopefully with him getting more minutes with McKenna's arrival, a goal won't be far away

As I pressed send I was thinking the same thing If the game has been a bit congested, the front two have been well marked, then we need a bit of guile and edge of the box trickery.. then wheel out THE PIG As you say whether he wants to be a 20mins a week guy is another matter But as I've said on a number of occasions, McKenna's line "The 11 who start a match are representing the 20+ players who have trained this week" is a thing of beauty and of relevance here. Just think Kenlock is never going to start again this season (despite some deranged callers machinations on BBC Suffolk) but his daily challenging of Burns on the training pitch is essential to keep him sharp.
