Watched it a few times, Walton at fault here? Just looks like he gets the flight of the ball all wrong and parries it for their lad to rifle in.

Looked disappointing in real time and gets worse on replays...

Think he was expecting the shot to go bottom right. ( his left)

It's 20+ yards out and straight down the middle. Walton's starting position is odd and turns a regulation save into a sharp one, then having got there palming it straight into the danger area is criminal.

Not great. We've had a couple of hints why it's the likes of us and Luton after Walton, rather than top half Championship teams.

It's a big error from Walton. It's a shot from outside the box that's going right in the middle of the goal and it didn't seem to take a deflection. He should be saving that comfortably but he somehow got into a big old mess. It's very unlike him as he's been excellent here, similarly with the Fridge for the second goal. Two big mistakes have cost us a game that looked to be drifting towards a draw.

Caught out wrong footed,

Nope not great from the goalkeeper should be saving that. Also not good from Woolfenden pulling himself out of position to try and win the ball he had no chance of winning. Also got done for the one Walton made a save from (guy should have squared that for an easy tap in).

It was terrible all round… lost a midfield battle we should have won; defensive shape all over the place; a shot the keeper should have kept in hand; and then Burns ball watches than closing in and clearing

Comedy of errors

But let’s see if McKenna can lift the players again, iron out the issues and raise them for a tough Accrington game. Lose that one and you might see a run of poor results.

I have faith in the guy.

He does seem like he’s wrong footed and no doubt he’ll be disappointed with it too. He’s palmed that back out into the middle of the area, into on-rushing traffic, so not great there. However, look at the reaction of our defenders, Lee is first there, our defenders stand and watch him tap it in, not one of our defenders preempted that might happen and was there to bail Walton out. Thought that was disappointing too.

Personally (goalkeeping mistake aside), Bolton worked that first goal really nicely, with good passing and clever interplay.

If you can tell me a goalkeeper that doesn’t make a mistake then you are better man than me. Martinez yesterday for Villa a good example, he’s a top keeper, but it’s how goalkeepers react that’s important and tells you about their character. On the whole, Walton had another steady game for us yesterday and has proved a very good signing. The fact Luton are interested shows you Walton is decent, let’s not forget The Hatters play at a higher standard of football than us so no need to belittle their interest or Walton’s credentials.

I think he's an excellent goalkeeper and would be delighted if we kept him. But he's also cost us points against Sunderland and Bolton, and that's probably the reason he's in range for us. Both things can be true.

Lets flip this on it’s head, how many games has he played where he has earned us points since he’s been here? I would think that outweighs the points dropped against Sunderland and Bolton.

Which games would you say he's earned us points by making saves you wouldn't expect of an average League 1 keeper? Probably his best performance was against Charlton where we lost despite him making several excellent saves.

I think he's a very good keeper at this level for what it's worth but he'll need to cut down some of the big errors if he's going to fulfil his potential and become more than a very good League 1 keeper.

I know it's fashionable, but do we need to get all analytical on a single error from one of out best players? Not this thread particularly, but the fkn angsty instant fkn whinging about every fkn perceived mistake by a player or coach, drives me up the fkn wall!

I want some fkn old-fashioned patience and and I fkn want it now!

I find it hilarious how we think players aren’t going to make mistakes in games. Yes, he made one yesterday that cost us a goal and ultimately 3 points, but he’ll know that for himself, he won’t need you or me scrutinising it. However, there have been times in matches he’s made crucial saves to keep us level, ahead or in touch in games, but it’s not just his saves that make him important to us. If we are quibbling over his errors in games against Sunderland and Bolton, then from a keeper’s point of view that’s a decent return for amount of games he has played. There’s plenty of average keepers around in L1, but he’s better than that IMO. If Cornell can get regular games for Peterborough United, then I feel sure Walton can have a very decent career in the Championship.

Didn't Walton pull off a worldie against Wycombe which had it gone in, possibly would have changed the mood of the game.

Appreciate it depends on what you call a world class save but it's an example. Is it different to other gks? We will never know, but I've seen Walton save more shots than Hladky.
I'd also add. Some of his handling has been levels above some others at this level.

Appreciate you had asked Chrisd. But it's an open floor.

In a recent thread asking which of Bonne or Walton we’d prefer to keep it was something like 90% in favour of Walton. Yesterday he made a mistake which cost a goal - it happens, do we really need to direct it. We won’t get a keeper who doesn’t make mistakes so as he’s generally considered to be the best since Bart let’s do all we can to keep him.

Is there any other angle of the goal. Watching it back is there a possible change of a slight deflection. Shooters body shows an intent to be aiming for that bottom corner but the ball goes straight, deflection or scuff for me. Wonder of tomorrow's town in 5 may show it.

Why am I going to waste my time answering your question? We both know you’re going to disagree with the answer even if it’s a reasonable response, which in this case it very much is. An utterly pointless exercise IMO. We’ve both seen the games Walton has played live at the ground or otherwise, you know exactly what I’m suggesting. Yes, I downvoted, I’m only taking a leaf out of your book, that’s something you excel at!

Yep it was an error but can see why it was made. The bigger error was Donacian's dreadful passing and then defence all over the place.

Walton I would suggest is from what I have seen the best keeper in this league! The defence in front of him has been very poor. Every keeper will make a mistake or two at least during a season, it's just those mistakes often lead to goals.

Everyone had a bad day yesterday, however I do think KM's judgement on the game was right. We did dominate the second half, with better delivery from corners and more incisive passing and running from the strikers we should have won.
