Following the Dominic Thompson signing... 08:35 - Jan 28 with 1999 viewsBlueBadger

...can we put together an 'out of the blue' Blues XI of players who's signings we didn't have a scooby about until the deal was done or near as dammit done?

Sereni(?)

Disclaimer: most of this is essentially composed of 'I don't recall there being much build up to this signings' players who may very have been trailed a lot in the media, I just don't remember there being any).

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Seem to think David Johnson came out of the blue?

Might be wrong as I wasn't living in Ipswich, so don't know if the local press knew it.

First I saw was on news in brief on Ceefax!!

Surely all of the away games we’ve played this season in the white kit are out of the blue?

I remember coming home from school and finding out we’d signed Freddie Sears when it hadn’t been mentioned at all that morning.

A crocked Johny Williams for the 17th spell. The aim was to appease this fanbase following Murphys departure to Newcastle.

Mark McGuiness? Keanan Bennets? Both happened out of the blue.

Scott Fraser was fairly out the blue from the summer? As was Kyle Edwards IIRC.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

Conor Chaplin as well

Both those players had a report on them from EADT and TWTD though. So we knew it was coming. The best one's are when there are no reports or rumours. Kyle Edwards probably the only one from the summer.

Gary croft, sure he signed on the afternoon of a night game we were playing at home.

Loanees quite often come without much notice as there's less to do on the deal and less noise about it.

Sereni news emerged in the week leading up to the first game, George having been in Italy to watch him.

Italian Target Was Keeper! 13th Aug 2001 21:20
It appears that George Burley's Italian target was another goalkeeper, Sampdoria's Matteo Sereni. Burley hinted that his weekend scouting trip was to Italy and it seems that the Sampdoria-Cittadella Coppa Italia game was the match he watched with Samp winning 2-0. 0

Might be mis-remembering, but I'm pretty sure we signed Gary Roberts out of nowhere one day and he was on the bench that evening.
