Dobra 09:50 - Feb 10 with 1646 viewsitfc_bucks

Now, I'm not on board with this moaning about him not being played by Colchester. Ultimately, if he can't force his way into the cluster that is ColWho, he really doesn't have much of a claim on a shirt here, in my view.

I suppose it's a similar situation to Aston Villa with their man Barry when he was here. I must admit, I was expecting more from him at Colchester United, but it does seem he's struggling to make an impact there.

Can’t help feel it’s up to him now. I’ve always wanted him to be involved here, but if he can’t make it into their squad then it says something. We’re struggling to get Aluko, Chaplin and Celina in our team and we’ve also offloaded Barry so b*gger all chance here.. So he’s got to grab his opportunity on loan.
Makes me wonder if he chose the wrong club and should have gone somewhere further away and outside his comfort zone.

Col U fan here, Dobra is a frustrating one I think. Clearly has a lot of talent but contributes very little to the team whenever I've seen him play. He's got bags of tricks and pace to pass his man but always seems to make the wrong decisions at the end of his run, either keeping the ball too long, trying to take on the entire defense then either getting tackled or playing a panicked pass that goes awry. He had a long spell playing in the team first half of the season but made the same mistakes over and over so it's no big surprise to me he's not been involved much lately. Especially since we're now playing at the wrong end of the table, need reliability rather than liability. If we were having a better season pushing for promotion he might have thrived more here perhaps.

There's a good player in there somewhere and he's still very young just needs a lot more coaching and game time before he meets his true potential.

He struggled to reach his best in a massively underperforming and poorly managed team that was devoid of confidence when playing alongside the likes Sears, Chambers, Judge, Kenlock etc etc.

A loan move to Colchester was sure to fix that…

i think thats fair elnneilios. I get why CU not picking him much.

The key to me though is that he clearly has potential which prob wont develop playing at wrong end of L2. (I wish CU weren't there by the way). I'd much rather he was back here being improved by KD, KCK (as TS now is albeit for different reason).

He missed a decent chunk with covid over New Year and now played the last 2 U23 games which suggests he is getting abck to fitness

His loan hasn't gone well there, but we all saw how good he could be at start of season here when he excelled through pre season but missed out on game time because we made too many signings

Disappointed with the game time he's getting there but probably more than he would get here. We bought so many midfielders he was never going to get a look in.

I wouldn't write him off yet in that "he can't get in there team so won't get in ours". He is still fairly young?

Still annoyed we loaned him out and brought in Edwards, when Dobra was at least showing he was assisting, scored a couple and was showing signs that he was progressing greatly.

a niche perspective

I agree with that. It’s up to the player to get his head down and make himself first name in the team sheet. Dobra clearly hasn’t done that at Col U and they are right to drop him if he’s not doing it for them.

Leads back to Paul Cook as he is the one who decided to offload players at a whim and then bloat the squad up again with more underperformers. We had no need to get Barry and Edwards.

I don't think he's as far off getting game time as it might seem. The problem for him, as Wayne Brown mentions, is that there are five other loan players, so he can't get in the match-day reckoning. He wasn't helped by a) George foolishly getting sent off, so an on-loan keeper was brought in and then b) another loanee coming in (from A.Villa) who I suspect wasn't really planned for. (By this I mean I suspect Mark Kinsella, in his capacity with Ireland U21 and with his history at Villa, has 'presented' Tyreik Wright to Colchester who felt they couldn't say no.) Certainly there's no sense that Dobra has been 'sent to the U23's' as some kind of punsihment , - Dobra just needs match-fitness.
