Bonne & Norwood 09:38 - Feb 20 with 2103 viewsgtsb1966

Can anyone see both of these being here next season let alone one of them. The more this season goes on the more I find it unlikely.

Norwood won't be here, ITK facts that be!

Before yesterday I would have said none of the current 4 strikers would be here next season. But he does clearly like Jackson and if he can continue being the player that he should be with the raw attributes he possesses, then he will get a new deal.

Given that KM clearly rates Jackson and vice versa, I can def see him staying.

If he carries on playing like that he might get more suitors and go elsewhere.

Norwood I think will be off for a last hurrah at a club that'll build a team around and idolise him, a la Tranmere. He's contributed some decent goals since KMC came in and won't leave the club under the black cloud that seemed to be looming in recent times.

Bonne will depend heavily on the deal that can be done. There may be better options out there, but he's very effective on his day, works his socks off for the team and has good existing partnerships. In terms of culture, his enthusiasm for the club must be infectious too. More than one angle to look at there but the money has to be right.

I rate Bonne. There wasn't an itfc fan who would not have been over the moon if he had signed permanent on Jan 1st. Less than two months later he is no longer worth it to many! It just takes a few goals and the boy will be up and firing again. Remember, service to any of our front players has been relatively limited and nobody can ever question the boy's commitment and work rate. The price of any deal is the key factor.

It's nothing to do with the fans not wanting him more to do will KM want him. Obviously the price and wages will come into it too but I'm not so sure KM will be as enthusiastic as the fans. Only time will tell.

I’m not sure if he’ll take the risk at this stage. He clearly loves working with McKenna and, after a difficult three seasons, he’s enjoying his football again. I don’t think he’ll risk throwing that away so he’ll sign if we offer him something, though I think it’ll only be something like a one year contract with the club holding an option to extend.

Agree. Still young too, so if he can be coached into finding his early form over more of the season he'd be a great acquisition.

We'll need to get our heads around the fact that McK often uses the main striker almost as a support player though. That central striker has a very important role in affecting patterns of play and bringing others into the game, and it's not coincidence that goals are coming from wingback and wide attacking positions.

I think Piggott is another interesting one in that respect - sounds like he did well yesterday although I couldn't watch.

There’s going to be games when teams park the bus and there’ll be less space to play in. Not sure that’s the type of game for Jackson. Expect to see Bonne and/or Norwood used in those games.
Norwood looks as if he’s trying too hard to score.
Have to say Jackson looks the only in-form striker at the moment. Relying heavily on goals from Burns and Chaplin.

He’d help himself of he wasn’t constantly caught offside. It’s as expected as Thompson making a forward run then passing the ball backwards.

Norwood is your archetypal lower league striker. I'll be very surprised if McKenna doesn't want better for the money we are paying him next season, regardless of what division we are in. He's too erratic and chaotic for me. McKenna clearly likes intelligent footballers that can play a specific role in a disciplined way. That just isn't Norwood for me.

I think Norwood has a lot to do to be kept on. Wouldn't have said that about Bonne until this week, but left on the bench in favour of Norwood on Saturday, with only 2 starts in our last 6 games. Unless something changes I can't see that we're spending a big fee to get him.

Agreed, Bonne wages too expensive and Norwood will go back up north. Pigott likely to try and re-build his career elsewhere and Simpson likely off too. Incredible to think Jackson may be the one striker kept, that said I feel we are missing a striker that will constantly score which would be the final piece of the jigsaw along with a left wing back as rest of team is fairly settled.

I agree, Bonne, Piggott and Norwood wont be here but Jackson will.

KM will want better quality than those 3 give. Expect a couple ManU youngsters plus a quality experienced front man.

Not sure why you have two downvotes for asking a perfectly reasonable question.

I don't think either particularly fit McKenna's pattern of play, so I think it highly unlikely they will be.

Norwood is a League One poacher and you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Bonne, if QPR sell at a realistic price may be more adaptable.

If we are promoted to the Championship then there is zero chance either will be here next season.

Your second paragraph was why I asked. I've opened a bottle of champagne with the daveU downvote. I've been trying for weeks !!!

Bone highly unlikely I’d have thought. Being a loan, he will inevitably go, and will we want to pay his wages for another loan? Based on last 16 or so games - I’d say no. His goal scoring record very poor recently.

Much will depend on Norwood regarding his future. Good goal scorer when he is fully on it. Sadly, he’s had a number of challenges.
