Massimo Luongo 09:33 - May 26 with 2010 views | BlueandTruesince82 | Out of contract at Sheffield W. Only 29. Think they'd be keen to extend but would a return to PR and a bit closer to London appeal? Good addition? Or needlessly revisiting yet another loan option? [Post edited 26 May 2022 10:36]

Massimo Luongo on 09:35 - May 26 with 1992 views | itfcjoe | He was excellent for Sheffield Wednesday last season, when he played their form was much, much better - I think they'd have kept him if they could, and if they couldn't keep him then we won't be able to attract him as have similar financial clout. Think he'll be looking back to get back to Championship - but if for any reason we could get him yoiu'd take him straight away EDIT - last season at Wednesday they picked up 2 points per game when he played [Post edited 26 May 2022 9:38]

Is he on his way down? As mentioned (and according to EADT) SW were a far better looking side when he played last year, and they are keen on extending. At 29 he has good 4 or 5 years still in him, though there is of course no guarantee, knows the club. Closer to London where he spent much of time with spurs/QPR.......

Yes, he was. He was pretty much seen as key to them.

So good news for us as it sounds like a likely key rival is weaker than last season if he leaves them....

Oh well, it’s all opinions but I watched him in the two Sunderland games a week or two ago and didn’t see anything much. Bannon - different story, but then he will be playing at a higher level next year I’d think.
Massimo Luongo on 10:00 - May 26 with 1779 views | PrideOfTheEast | Would definitely take him. Wish we'd signed him all those years ago. Top footballer and he did well at Weds last year. Age not a particular issue - he was never one to rely on pace etc.

i love morsy, but we do need to remember he has a ban or 2 in him as season goes on, ideally a play the same as him, that can play with him, would be a good addition IMO

Take your point but I’m wondering if it’s to do with their finances? Pretty sure I read something recently that said Wednesday are losing over half a million pounds a week. That’s not sustainable in League 1!

Are we signing players on PPG rather than ability now? Absolute madness. He's an alright player in a third division side, well he was alright for them in this league because he was awful in the Championship.

He's a player that made his team better consistently when he played, and was really missed when he didn't. He absolutely walked all over us in the midfield in the game at Hillsborough as they completely dominated. He'd be a top signing in there with Morsy

I agree with you Joe. Took a look him to see what the fuss was about, and didn't realise how strong he was as soon as he recovered from the injury he had in the Championship. No surprise that Sheff Wed are trying/struggling to tie him down to a deal, think that a CH side should be all over Luongo. Clear to see that when he is fit, he tears up the league.

Luongo, Bannan and Dele-Bashiru v. El Mizouni and Bakinson was one of the worst midfield mis-matches we faced all season. Up there with Wiles, Barlaser and Rathbone 2nd half at Roterham...

Yep remember that, feared it could have been a whole lot worse with no Morsy replacement, luckily it was kept to 1-0. It was multitude of things as well - Idris coming in from the cold to start, mismatched midfield battles. Thompson getting destroyed over, and over, and over again down our left. A key reason why we didn't even garner a shot on target was the fact we had a slow-ish attack vs an experienced defence. Burns pinned back, meaning Bonne, Celina and Chaplin were the only outlets. None of which can run in behind, still surprised that Edwards didn't feature in that one of the bench.
