The value of an individual sport is in its commercial appeal rather than or how long it is or how strong its participants are.

I think the reality is there has to be some positive discrimination at times in order to move towards equality.
Women should be paid the same as men in reality. The caveats to that are where there is an economic factor, for example mens football is more lucrative and female models are paid more than men. There should be no difference in salary though for the CEO of a company if the job is the same whether it's a man or a woman.
You could argue what happens if men are paid more and Murray won 3-0 last night? Should he get the same money as Serena Williams winning 2-1? Do you pay by the set, by the match?
I think it's fine women tennis players earn the same. Wimbledon is a massive tournament that features men, women and doubles and draws in a big pool of money from sponsorship it can then pass on to all players.
But any form of inequality needs to be addressed. That's why 1 in about 25 couples are mixed race but in adverts it's probably 50%. No white kid is needing to see two white parents to feel it's normal but some people still need to see mixed race parents to appreciate that is also fine and normal. Pay inequality is another branch of that. By paying women the same for less work it at least normalises paying them the same for the same work, which should be a given.

I think there are issues with that argument. Paying women the same for 3/5of the work or product normalises the idea that women can do less and need to be treated differently.
