Wife works in the healthcare industry… 5 hour wait for ambulances if you have something urgent like a stroke or heart attack. 19 hour wait for non urgent cases.

Although to be fair, the vast majority of non urgent cases can find their own way to hospital…. That’s one of the ambulance service’s biggest issues, idiots calling ambulances unnecessarily.

The hospitals are incredibly busy when you get there though. Took a tumble on my bike yesterday and have had to go back to A&E three times now to get the steri strips and glue replaced. Am waiting now and suspect it might be stitches this time but it's a 3 hour wait and people coming in all the time.

The emergency sections are totally overrun. Before we worry about 40 new hospitals lets get the ones we have properly funded. It was like a sauna yesterday, I mentioned to the doctor it must be hard working in the heat and he said the NHS couldn't afford fans.

Culture War means votes from right-wing swivel eyed loons. Ambulances and A&E don't - they just get a badge and a bit of applause.

I wonder what Tom has to say on the matter; it's "illegal" immigrants' fault?

I have had a five month health problem thankfully now resolved. I visited A & E twice, seen inside an hour on each occasion, and last month my wife called an emergency ambulance for me and it arrived in 20 minutes.

On your second paragraph whilst that’s undoubtedly true NHS systems don’t help matters. My wife has twice had an ambulance dispatched following calls to 112 for what were basically gallstones, once when I wasn’t there and the other when I was and the ambulance was still sent despite her telling the operator someone could take her to hospital

On the latter occasion the paramedic that arrived basically explained that the 112 algorithms basically go to the worst case scenario so any kind of internal stomach pain end up as a possible heart attack. Which I guess is understandable but does seemingly result in a lot of non-urgent ambulances being dispatched!

Sadly that does seem to be the case. I really try and steer clear of comments on Twitter, but the few I have seen under the Tory candidates' posts seen to only wang on about inane culture war issues. Very few are encouraging them to consider tackling problems with jobs, cost of living, climate change, etc. It's all 'kiCk oUt the imMigrUnts', 'bEat tHe woKeloRds', etc. And a lot of stuff starting up on Bill Gates and WEF, bizarrely (the latter seems to be their latest conspiracy theory and rallying point).

The system is to blame, as much as time wasters. Someone with moderate covid symptoms might call for advice but as soon as they state that they are short of breath, they will get a Cat A ambulance response.
Most members of the public will then believe that they warrant a Cat A ambulance and so that is an ambulance taken up for at least an hour. The telephone triage system is costing lives.

Huh. Intuitively I’d have thought the opposite, especially if there’s good ventilation too. Which shows the problem with intuition.

COVID’s still causing plenty of issues isn’t it, no matter how hard we’re supposed to ignore it. Wales announced a turn to containment measures in hospitals a week or two ago.

Thats because fans are the cheapest option. Plenty of hospital grade air cleaners on the market but they cost more and the money has been already spent on overpriced PPE.

Yep, my Dad had a 5 hour wait for an ambulance with a suspected stroke today.

I tweeted his, mine and the MP in whose constituency the hospital is in. Not that it will make any difference - they are all currently obsessing over which candidate is offering the most tax cuts. Not a word from any of them on the NHS from what I've heard.

W@nkers the lot of them.

Ambulance has got him to hospital - still waiting to hear - but he was lucid when I got to him earlier. A nurse had been and she thought it was a hypo rather than a stroke. He fell in the night and again this morning and banged his head.

So all in am sure he'll be ok, but am proper angry to be honest. 5 hour wait for an emergency is disgusting. Am sure there are many cases where that wait will prove fatal. We are literally leaving people to die because we haven't got the capacity in our ambulance services for the current demand.

SFA to do with Covid - this is under investment - simple. And like I say, all the politicians do is talk about tax cuts...

Missed this too. Hope he's ok BL. 5 hours isn't good enough is it. My old fella had a few hospital trips before he passed away at the end of last year. He spend more time sitting in the back of ambulances than he did in the hospitals themselves almost. Stupid delays at every point of the system. It's no good blaming people who call unnecessarily - they can and should be screened out. When the ambulance trusts are adopting emergency measures when there's no emergency, it should be bleedin obvious that the system is well and truly broken (underfunded).

We've got more important things to worry about like what toilets are labelled as and cutting corporate tax.

Then we'll look at healthcare, climate change, education etc.

Maybe.

Probably not.

I was in a&e a few weeks ago when the neighbours dog bit me. Just needed tetanus shot, antibiotics and it cleaned up properly.

For what it's worth, I would have been happy to pay £20 or something. It's unrealistic to me to maintain an entirely free healthcare system with an enormous budget and 1.3 million workforce.

A girl (maybe early 20s) walked in and asked to see the doctor in a&e because her scalp was 'a bit sore'.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

First of all your neighbour's dog should never have been in A&E. Bang out of order.

As for the young girl it's a shame [some] people take advantage and we all need educating on these things more than we are. Or reminding perhaps I should say.

I know others have said it too but genuinely don't understand why there aren't more public information films. A few moments here and there to remind us of ways to keep ourselves and others safer.

Tax cuts won't help the NHS that's for sure.

Hope the hand is ok now.

Incorrect. There is no such thing as a Cat A ambulance; many calls that are allocated ambulance attendance by the service will be subsequently retriaged by a clinician and cancelled; many calls allocated an ambulance by 111 will be retriaged and cancelled. Telephone triage via MPDS is a life saving tool.
