Re; all this inflation sh1t 22:11 - Jul 27 with 3519 viewsLord_Lucan

Now then, now then.

Posting this in conjunction with a thread that got involved with inflation - of which I said I would post a thread about it.

Confused - so am I.

Anyhoo, dear reader. You ain’t seen nuffink yet.

Any board regulars (sad motherfeckers) on here will know that for the past 2 (Teletext TWO) years I have been moaning about the quadrupling of freight prices and how this is gonna kill the price of everything.

Naturally no one listened because Lucan, as we all know, is a tvvat.

Now look here baby. Mark these words!

The inflation you are seeing now is nothing to do with energy prices, it is to do with freight.

By the time the energy price sh1t hits the market ( I would guess at three months or so) that’s when you / we / are in a muddle. The cost of living hike at the moment is nothing to do with energy - we have that to come.

It’s a bit like a nuclear bomb, we are about to get the second wave.

Genuinely not trying to worry people, if anything I’m giving fair warning.

Lock up your hatches.

The government will, eventually, pick more fruit from the magic money tree and hand it round.

But you are correct, there will be much undue suffering before they are forced to act.

They should announce now - no-one will be cut off the electric or gas - all kids will get free breakfast and lunch.

Then they changed the blend and it was decided they were allowed to continue labelling it the same anyway.

You see, herewith lay the problem

All this crap about left and right, you are just gunning for a carpet blitz.

Ultimately it's about pure economics and it doesn't really matter what side of the park you sit.

Covid, profiteering, Putin - you name it, It's all happening one by one man.

Guess what, I ridiculed the heat warning, but I'm big enough to say I was wrong - those extra couple of degrees really hit the sh1t baby.

It takes a man to admit he was wrong and I'm standing up to be counted..

Let's all live in the real world - rather than throw rocks at it.

Inflation though........ they are fooling you with 9%

Ha ha, it's more like 35% right now and by Christmas it will be 100% - although the official figure will say, let me guess - 23%

It's gonna get bumpy man!

Nothing

We're screwed - just gotta ride it out.

Some will get by and some will be in a proper pickle.

Gotta say, I count myself as very fortunate in that at this point of time I am fine - although things can change in an instant.

Thing is, people like me (and probably most on here who have the time to post cr4p all day) don't really know how bad some people have it.

We think we understand - but really, we don't.

You make a very good point. Those of us with tens of thousands of posts to our name have jobs or lifestyles where that’s not an issue. Folks working in warehouses and factories and building sites don’t have that luxury. Of course it’s not as black and white as that, but it is a good reminder that there’s a whole other world outside the TWTD/twitter bubble.

Imbalance between supply and demand - over stimulated economy from a fair bit of money printing. Many people didn’t work for long time because of extended lockdowns but had a lot of cash in their pockets. The fed raised basis points again today, they’re deliberating trying to crash assets at this point.

Talking of not working, you’re right about this board, whenever I see peoples posts and how active some are during the working day it surprises me.

Energy costs appear to be more a European problem, Germany is particularly vulnerable to old Vlad.

You never have to look far to see someone worse off than yourself.

This whole situation we find ourselves in, yet again, is still unacceptable and I wonder if society has in general made as much progress as it likes to claim it has?

Seeing people fall through the cracks should never result in any of us just shrugging our shoulders and carrying on.

You're probably right, but you're also avoiding mentioning one particular major factor - Brexit. Why has freight gone up so much? This gives an insight:

On this one occasion I would say that Brexit is actually pretty irrelevant. It's a global problem and it started due to a lack of available containers because they were all stuck on ports throughout the world full of PPE.

The Chinese then went on a massive container building campaign and availability is pretty much back to normal but the shipping companies are now profiteering - and it's blatant.

The fact that none of our politicians have bought this up is nothing short of a disgrace, they probably don't even know what's happening. I was going to write to Hunt but decided that was pointless as he is a cretin so I wrote to Clive Lewis who is MP where our office is - and I have heard nothing.

Even Biden has addressed the matter now.

Interesting thread. I too am very lucky and am well insulated against what’s coming (although my son will have the hump when he doesn’t get a PS5 for his birthday (where are they all btw Lucan are you hoarding them)) although as you allude to this can turn in a moment. Those of us who own our homes have plenty to eat are in stable employment and can afford our broadband energy etc while probably in the majority are still very fortunate.

interesting that container supply is back to normal. i assumed that the stock piles of empty containers in fields around suffolk - eg melton - would need to be run down as we returned to normal but they seem still to be there.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

As well as inflation the energy stuff is just going to stop companies making stuff - if you’re already in a wafer thin margin environment then one of your fundamental costs going up by >100% is going to cripple you if you’ve already got forward sales position or selling into a market that can’t take that price rise.

That in turn will lead to jobs lost and this all of a sudden becomes a pretty horrible recession for a lot of people.

Brexit is the cherry on the cake innit. Extra administrative costs on top of rising freight prices, rising material costs, rising wages, rising energy prices. Particularly frustrating as it's self inflicted, but there we are.

And yeah, you couldn't pick a worse time to do it if you tried.

Well the energy crisis is simply going to fuel inflation further.

we've just bought a company in the midlands and their electricity was .19p per kw. Because we bought the goodwill and not the actual Ltd company we have had to set up a new energy supply and it has gone up to .60p per kw. Our Norwich office is cheaper so i contacted our supplier there and they are not taking any new business on

Our domestic shipping rates B2B now are subject to 10% misc tarrif and 20% fuel surcharge, to be honest this isn't much of an issue in the great scheme of things but it all adds up.

And then there is Sterling v Dollar - 1.2 is simply too low. The Dollar rate coupled with freight forced us to increase our prices last year by 20% and I guess we will raise another 10% - 20% next year . Most of the stuff we sell is small. on average we will get 3000 cartons per container, this means that the freight costs per item aren't as bad an increase as if we were bringing in big stuff like garden furniture.

People are simply accepting price rises, we are getting no push back but at some point something has to give.

The country is collapsing around us. More and more people being drawn into poverty; public services on their knees through years of underfunding.

Flashman and the sour-faced milk monitor have amply demonstrated that, whichever of them is apotheosised by the home counties elite, the lies and the race-to-the-bottom will continue. As long as they can continue to fool the red-wall racist Mail/Sun reading thickoes.

The pound crashed v Dollar after Brexit, I acknowledge that and it was actually my biggest fear and one of the reasons i voted remain.

But The Euro is also in pretty poor shape. I'm not downplaying Brexit but we really have to move on - Our European brothers have exactly the same freight, energy and inflation problems.

Did you know London almost shut down last week?

We had to pay an emergency price to Belgium of £9,724.54 per megawatt hour which is 5,000% higher than the typical price in order to prevent parts of London having a black out.
