This is a pretty poor show on 13:45 - Aug 12 with 1935 views | MattinLondon | As much as I think Ipswich gets a good kicking - especially, for some reason by people who live elsewhere in Suffolk - it’s sights and attractions aren’t in the same league as other towns. But as the report says, the waterfront regeneration will mean that it will soar up the ratings. What Ipswich needs is its own political body who will solely look after it with real political vision and authority. A body that won’t care about the rest of Suffolk.m but just look after the Town.

there are many cool places/things to do in Ipswich (a statement based on my living here for the past year, having lived in US/Canada since 2000), we're just not very good at celebrating it the loss of the Tourist Information in St Stephen's church continues to irk me, as much as I love the reboot venue / pop-up vinyl store Christchurch Park is stunning (Holywells no slouch), the museum is ace, huge shame the Ancient House is currently empty, we have a slew of great food/drink pubs, the waterfront, and some great architecture when doing some urban mooching (usually en route to Fat Cat, Greyhound, or Woopack) You're right in that the well-heeled country dwelling set of Suffolk look down on Ipswich, but that's their loss and the music scene of old/now and the footy inter alia

I wouldn't say Ipswich has or would claim to be a staycation destination to rival Exeter, Norwich, Cambridge, Chester, Canterbury, Winchester, Oxford etc. If you rank it with more comparable towns & cities like Colchester, Reading, Swindon, Derby, Portsmouth etc I dare say it's fairly middling.

This is a pretty poor show on 14:11 - Aug 12 with 1759 views | Trequartista | Hang on a minute. Ipswich has a dash in every column except one. A dash indicates the sample size was too small to calculate a rating. Not sure how you can give an overall rating when 6 of your 7 parameters are missing!

Warwick has a dash in every column. It's a really OK place. I wouldn't put it past them to give a middle finger to the Fail and say we don't want your readers coming here. They have standards.

Sarfend! What's not to like. A long pier with a TRAIN on it. A beer can be bought and drunk at the end of the pier. The fresh sea breeze. The call of the seagull. Best not tell anyone, as it's not so good when the pier is rammed with day trippers.

I've always thought Colchester is a bit cr4p, doesn't really have much going for it at all. Ipswich is way better imo.

The waterfront has been regenerating for the past twenty years, its about as regenerated as its going to get what else can they do with it, build some more flats ? Maybe we should have our own survey on those categories. Food and Drink I'd say a 3, based on there are a good couple of places to eat and drink. Accommodation, in Ipswich, probably only a 1, all the best hotels are outside the town. Cultural sights, 3, we have Wolseys gate, some nice parks, churches, but much of the towns history was destroyed by various generations of developers Shopping, got to be a 1, there aren't any decent shops left in the town. Ease of getting around, maybe 2, some decent buses, but expensive, infrequent, dont serve the whole town and whilst most places walkable, most drive so theres too much traffic Lack of crowds, probably a 4 since there aren't any And VFM, I'd go for 3 only because I know outside Ipswich you pay more and get less vfm in most places in Suffolk, except for the really dire parts. Would that shift the ranking much I don't know I don't look at that list of medium cities and towns and think we'll Ipswich is out of depth against them, but I wouldn't say Ipswich was significantly better than any of them either
This is a pretty poor show on 17:34 - Aug 12 with 1196 views | Vaughan8 | Who has a staycation in Ipswich? What is there actually to do there for tourists? In all seriousness, there can't be too much to do there. I'm not surprised it has a low score.

Indeed, it feels a bit unfair to put Ipswich in a holiday destination list. Imagine telling the missus you've booked a surprise holiday... and then telling her it's in Ipswich. Not sure it's going to go down too well!
