Get in TRUSS!!! 12:45 - Sep 5 with 2809 viewshomer_123

At least this means the end of the Tory party - the British public wouldn't possibly vote for someone like that....would they?

A few hundred self serving MPs selected two candidates who 142,000 chose between. The winner got 81,326.

This is ridiculous.

I really think as a country we need to take a step back - and say WTF! on 12:53 - Sep 5 with 2175 viewsunstableblue

... and how on earth did we get here? to Liz Truss? to trailing behind our European peers on so many levels of good governance and moral direction

A lot of the blame must rest at our right wing press, and the offshore owners (many tax evading) that drive them.

As you say hopefully the next general election will give us the people the chance.. but we know that the Mail, Telegraph, Times.. and NOW Talk TV, GB News will back the Tories and eviscerate Labour

One final point.. Truss et al are making very negative and I personally dangerous media chracters a norm... Hartley-Brewer is toxic, she represents a poor direction for our culture.. and yet she is promoted by Truss et al

Brexit dividends abound... all very sad for our children's future

PS - you're going to see how badly planned out our energy policy and contingency is thie winter.. compared even to a Germany... and the blame will be on the Tory party

They will bin her before the next election.

The media will be spinning the Tory version of 'they chose the wrong one' before Sunak is pushed on the members using the threat of Starmer.

Hopefully it won't fool anyone but who knows.

And another thing.. "Boris, my friend... you got Brexit done" on 13:45 - Sep 5 with 1737 viewsunstableblue

This really continues to grind my gears

In what reality can anyone say that Brexit is done

Just on Northern Ireland alone.. we clearly have not got it done

And if you wider in terms of trade, trading arrangements, European flows of goods and revenue... it feels like years years before we going to get close to Brexit being done

Read the below please, surely Brexit is done when companies like that brewer are back close to the £600,000 of EU export revenue.. and have moved a long way forward from the Brexit inflicted £2,000??

Or am I missing something?

I'm not entirely convinced Truss will be any worse than Johnson - he was simply appalling in any number of ways from the shameless lying, overseeing massive corruption, inaction and absence at key times, incompetence and buffoonery at a time of genuine national need, etc.

She's not clever enough to get away with his approach, even if she does seem to be a bit of a continuity candidate in terms of the culture wars and nationalistic drum banging. And you can bet a photo op to Kiev will be top of her wishlist.

Yet I wonder how much of her previous approach was dictated by need to be one of the Brexit cabal to climb the greasy pole? Her tax plans are a massive alarm bell seemingly that could (continue to) do large damage. But then her supposed help on energy bills could actually turn out to be a good thing for a lot of people. We may all get a short-term benefit from her getting the role. We may not of course, as so often the last few Tory governments have failed to deliver anything meaningful despite sthe sound bites.

After which Boris gets returned as PM, calls an election, the public forget how incompetent and ,let's not say corrupt but dodgy ,he was . Tories win by a narrow margin and we get 5 more years of incompetence and friends of the tories getting things done.

I think she deserves a chance. She might turn out to be a great leader! Or she might be a disaster, but she deserves a bit of time to have a go. I personally have never thought it was right to change leader without consulting the electorate. Think we should change that ruling. It will be a huge problem for Labour if she does OK.
