This England is the most boring and depressing thing I've watched in a long time. the Middle 4 episodes are basically a study in death, albeit shot amazingly: the care home scenes...they can't have been real but they looked it. If you were expecting a show about Boris, forget it, although I'm sure Branner must have had x many of his little whispered Shakespearian monologs written into his contract.
Moonfall on the other hand is bloody amazing! Brilliant action adventure - not clever, just much fun and some good ideas thrown in (like the effects of the Moon's gravity as it got close). Best 'world is ending' film for may years.
Anyway, thanks for reading!
Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa
ANDOR is fantastic if we’re doing recommendations and it’s very much unlike all other Star Wars stuff. THE BEAR is also great.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
I’m trying that but it’s grating on me. Of course the first woman he meets jumps into bed with him; of course a 75yo man can out fight black ops assassins a third of his age; of course that’s his daughter. I enjoyed the first couple episodes very much but the Afghan stuff really stretches credulity.

I agree you have to suspend a little belief but that's the case with a lot of things.
Clearly he is an utter bad ass whose years of training time spent on ops mean he's developed some moves.....and John Lithgow, which is enough to reccoemd anything

I'm watching this now and don;t like his tone! He's being mean about my lovely film the brute!
Edit: ok i've finished it now. I'm very very *very* upset! Don;t listen to experts - it's a cracker!

In fairness, in this review he says this is just 6 films stuck together incoherently - in his review of Amsterdam, I think the number is 12 films stuck together. I quite enjoyed Amsterdam...
But you are right on This England - we have done three episodes and goodness me it is grim watching

I've not seen Amsterdam - thanks for the reccomendation.
I feel for you only being on Ep 3 of This England. Personally I can't drop a show once I've started it, but I came close on that one.

The casting for Amsterdam is unreal
For This England, I think I can leave it as I can guess how it ends... might be one to revisit when everything else (away from FPR) is less uniformly gloomy!

The Bear is probably the best thing I've seen on TV in while, it's brilliantly done. Andor is the best Star Wars TV show by some distance.
As good as the Mandolorian?
Obi Wan Kenobi was pretty naff, and I've not watched Boba Fett as heard from too many people it was crap - he wasn't a character that needed a back story.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

Obviously everyone will have their own opinions but I saw Amsterdam and thought it was bloody awful. Bloated cast that has very little chemistry with one another and a plot that thinks it is being clever while actually taking away from the main story. Pretty hard to follow, and not in a good way. There's a good film in there but to find it you need a large set of scissors, if you ask me (which you didn't)m

I liked Mando but Andor is far superior. It’s a proper Le Carre style espionage thriller set in Star Wars

I think the great thing about Andor is that it is largely detached from the central star wars universe and as a result has much more freedom. It's been superbly plotted, decent cast and script.
I definitely think it is a little stronger than The Mandalorian which I appreciate is a big shout.
The Book of Boba Fett was largely awful but just looked nice.

Given your cultural appreciation seems to be akin to your football appreciation, I might just give both a wide berth now.
Exactly my thoughts...
To see the words "This England is the most boring and depressing thing I've watched in a long time" coming from a Norwich fan, isn't exactly a glowing reference.
Best "world is ending" movie of recent years is surely Greenland... It came out a couple of years ago to little fanfare and starred Gerard Butler as a dad trying to get his family to safety from a Meteor strike. Something about it felt horribly plausible, utterly gripping I thought

Also if you're looking for a good telly rec, check out Mr In-between on Disney. Aussie drama about a bouncer/hitman. Bloody (sometimes literally) brilliant
