I know, but hey lets not worry about the person trying to get to hospital or the self employed guy struggling to get to a job he needs to pay his bills this week. lets just make some self obsessed egotistic meaningless futile gesture and sod anyone it affects on the day [Post edited 17 Oct 2022 9:46]

I’m not sure there’s any need for anymore direct action is there? Unless you’re telling me that throwing soup at a painting achieved nothing at all?

I reckon you're gonna get it in the neck for that post. Are you self-employed? I think people who aren't on a salary are more likely to be peeved at this sort of demo, personally.

I would say that there's nothing, and I mean nothing, including my own life, which is more important than the results that the protestors are trying to achieve. I might agree or disagree with their tactics at times, but I would never call them tvvats, or self-obsessed. Virtually nothing has been achieved yet, by more conventional attempts to influence governments, in the existential battle against climate change. We are seriously running out of time, and drastic measures are necessary. We're already seeing in the last handful of years worse than worst-case scenario outcomes in all regions of the world, and whilst the near-term future is inevitably going to be really bleak for vast numbers of humans and other species, we should be doing everything we can in pursuit of the small amount of hope we have to mitigate things. Poncing around within the exist system and allowing corporations to bullsh!t us into thinking they are greening themselves up is NOT going to make a meaningful difference. Or we just give up.

But one guy up a bridge, throwing soup at a painting or one of the other myriad of stunts isnt going to help either is it. It just serves to alienate people and detract from their aims Yes I care about the planet and will do what I can when I can for the sake of my grandchildren. Perhaps if there was a concerted effort to vote green it would help, but needs to be world wide Perhaps if the wealthier countries (and yes that includes China and India) played a more active part in Debt restricting the poorer countries could look for greener ways to develop it would help Perhaps if the leading business men of the world stopped penis shaped vanity projects and use their wealth to look for ways reverse the issues in the atmosphere it would help sorry but I'm not sure a man with bridge up arse on a wet Monday is really going to save the planet is it? In the words of a US president (in a film) We have some serious problems and this is the time for serious solutions (perhaps that puts my remark into some better context) [Post edited 17 Oct 2022 10:21]

Maybe I'm just putting my own prejudices on you. People on salaries struggle to understand the furry of giggers who get caught up in this sort of action... It just seems that its always the little guy who gets screwed - whether by those in power or those rallying against that power. As you say below, I support the cause - just wish there was another way of protesting which didn't hit the poorest hardest.

I get your point, and the fact that very decent people like you are angered by their actions does certainly back your point up. I can't honestly say that I wouldn't feel the same if I had to use the M25. I guess what I'm saying is that I don't know whether the nett result of these actions is positive or negative (and I don't think anybody can know that), but I do think that we all have to respect the intentions and the determination to act of these protestors and swallow our own inconveniences whether they be small or in some cases very large. One cynical scenario might be that these actions make von Bravermann push harder for her anti-democratic restrictions on assembly and free speech, and the resultant public push back on that takes us the other way? We just don't know, but people have to try in any way they can.

Bridge designer shuts bridge! on 10:40 - Oct 17 with 2065 views | jonbull88 | I’ve always want to ask these sorts of people what they would actually do, if we did actually just stop using oil. Life would be very very different. Even “green” tech needs oil either to be produced or to indeed run it. By simply stopping the use of oil, millions, if not billions will simply starve to death.

"We have some serious problems and this is the time for serious solutions." I'm not seeing any, at all though Keno. We are seeing our own Gov backtracking on oil and gas for example.

Shouldn't really need to protest through, certainly not on this subject anyway.

If they wanted to do something to draw attention to their cause and get people on their side, they should have done something with minimal interference to the public like protesting at an art gallery.

Clearly you have not been affected by the actions of these pathetic hypocrites who are 'saving the planet'. I have lost earnings, family have had medical appointments cancelled and tens of thousands of people are constantly inconvenienced by these people who drive to their protests, use oil based glue and regularly fly in planes around the world. 'Save the planet' - yeah whatever.

^^This x1,000. It's a tough one though, as the extinction of species, irreversible changes to environments and lifestyles, risk to life and longer term astronomical costs (social and financial) aren't visible to those of us stuck in traffic jams and have more immediate worries. But we have to start taking cc more seriously. Frozen Planet might have helped last night, if it gains as much attention as Attenborough's plastics programme did.
