The World Cup..... on 10:16 - Oct 30 with 1950 views | J2BLUE | If ever there was a tournament to stay at home and watch in the pub this is it. I wouldn't go if they paid me but i'm looking forward to the actual matches.

The World Cup..... on 10:23 - Oct 30 with 1940 views | JakeITFC | I’m going for the first week or so. I think before every tournament there are media reports saying how awful it will be so I’m not that fussed in that regard. It’s obviously nonsense that it’s in Qatar and it’s in winter, it’s not a place that I’d wish to go to in normal circumstances for obvious reasons, but ultimately the World Cup is something that is very important to me and there is a finite amount of time in which I can afford/justify it/have the England caps to get tickets.
There are so many awful things about this World Cup… on 11:05 - Oct 30 with 1865 views | unstableblue | … one I thought of the other day was these huge white elephant stadiums (people died to build) The majority of them will lay empty and unused after the tournament No legacy The massive carbon footprint poured in the concrete One thing I did hear is that Qatar have already planned reforms as a result of protests - with the Danish and Norwegian FAs really pushing hard Think Qatar are hoping that the outrage will die down once the games themselves start - not sure that will be the case, but the visible protests will make us all feel better

The World Cup..... on 11:06 - Oct 30 with 1861 views | SuperKieranMcKenna | I’m feeling very meh about it despite our progress in the last two tournaments. England’s poor form going into it, and for me feelings that Southgate is fairly limited as a manager. That said, only a couple of league games in the month means some rest for the players and plenty of time on the training pitch to rectify recent issues.

Going to be a strange month. Currently two away games, both televised, should be two cup games and hopefully no replays. Important we hit the ground running in December starting with two home wins.

The World Cup..... on 11:24 - Oct 30 with 1773 views | ElephantintheRoom | Personally I think a sandpit with an iffy human rights record is a better place to hold a World Cup than a country that has invaded its next door neighbour. But if I remember correctly Russia was a right on place and Ukraine the second most corrupt country in Europe back in 2018. At least in the eyes of virtue signallers

The World Cup..... on 12:06 - Oct 30 with 1706 views | RIPbobby | Hopefully FIFA do what they did in the last world cup and give loads of pens in the group games to make them a decent spectacle. If not it will be very dull I think.

Really hope we can take 6 points from the Cheltenham and Exeter prior to the World Cup break… would set us up nicely for the big push over Christmas and into the New Year.

Are you talking about holding the World Cup in the USA in 1994, what with its involvement in undermining regimes, and its invasion of countries, in its own back yard and throughout the world? At the end of the day, I think it's often a matter of degree, and compromise, as to the acceptability of countries holding the World Cup, but it's clear that Qatar is out there on its own because there is no previous country which has had such an appalling record on women's rights, quite apart from its treatment of LGBTQ+ people and migrant workers, thousands of whom have died since the World Cup was announced. But sadly, they have oil and are on the West's side, so no Western government really cares. https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2022/country-chapters/qatar EDIT: Another key factor in Western support is that Qatar has the world's third largest proven natural gas reserve and is the second-largest exporter of natural gas. Those gas storage facilities don't just fill themselves. [Post edited 30 Oct 2022 13:24]

The World Cup..... on 13:39 - Oct 30 with 1513 views | ronnyd | Read a report in one of yesterdays paper which stated that thousands of their migrant workers are being evicted from their accommodation to make way for the fans. i hope they tart them up a bit.
The World Cup..... on 13:49 - Oct 30 with 1481 views | ringwoodblue | Over the years I have become increasingly disinterested in International football to the point Im not interested in this WC at all and can’t imagine I will match many (if any) of the matches. I don’t agree with where it is being hosted, the whole thing stinks of corruption not to mention the appalling treatment of the workers involved in building the stadia.

At least the England fans are less likely to behave like drunken ar5eholes and trash the place

There isn’t a World Cup break at our level.
