Running watches / garmins etc 09:51 - Jan 16 with 2218 views | gordon | Semi-serious amateur runner, but never use a watch for training/parkruns - wondered what ones people use - not looking for anything really fancy, just tracking distance accurately, and also heart rate stuff if that is useful? Or is there anything else that people find really useful about them?
Running watches / garmins etc on 09:57 - Jan 16 with 2186 views | le2blue | Personally used a Garmin Forerunner for a number of years and it’s great, has all you need to track and improve performance and the app is pretty good for routes and analysis. However, over the last 6 months I’ve started also using my Apple Watch with the Strava app and with that you get pretty much everything you get with the Garmin and more. So personally I’d just go with the Apple Watch if you have one but if not the Garmin. They also do an entry one which is also perfectly adequate and you can pick them up on ebay or backmarket. Only downside is it runs off your phone’s internet so if you run somewhere and lose internet it won’t track that part of your route.

Running watches / garmins etc on 10:53 - Jan 16 with 2074 views | Ely_Blue | I have an Apple Watch, it tracks everything I need it to and syncs with most of the apps you’ll need. One good thing about it is that the screen and display is of a good size so you can read it easily when running

Running watches / garmins etc on 10:59 - Jan 16 with 2059 views | Swansea_Blue | Polar vantage M here. I like Polar for some reason, but I suspect they are all much of a muchness. The Mrs has an Apple watch and likes it. The downside of Apple watches are the need for frequent charging (every couple of days I think), whereas a single charge will easily last me a week away with activities every day. Fine if you've got power of course, but a week in the mountains is a problem with an Apple watch.

Running watches / garmins etc on 12:54 - Jan 16 with 2021 views | Roola | I had a fenix 6 pro solar until recently... bloody brilliant watch, i've recently upgraded to an Enduro 2 (treated myself) wanted extra battery life and bigger screen. Can't go wrong with a garmin. Fantastic watches and great linked into garmin connect. Forerunners are excellent for running.

I used to use Apple, but more recently purchased a Garmin forerunner 645 music. Battery life is better and, crucially, it is button operated, not touch screen - the frustration when starting an event in the rain and not being able to start the watch as the screen was soaked drove me to garmin! I mean, have you actually done the event if it is not shared on Strava? Not particularly taken with the HR monitor but it is never going to be great when taken from the wrist

Even as an old model the GPS is far more accurate than an Apple watch. Also if the Garmin breaks they will send you a reconditioned one or they did 5 years ago and it only cost me £40 | | | | Login to get fewer ads

If you are just looking for GPS, heart rate etc. Any forerunner made in the last 6 years will be fine.

If you can find someone with defence discount of Blue Light discount you can get about 40% off via those websites. 245 is incredible though, battery also lasts around 7 days.

And it’s constantly working in the background so your steps, distance, calories are e order even if you dont select a workout. It will also detect unusual heartbeat and send an sos if you fall and are immobile fur over a minute.

One thing that I want to upgrade but just can't find a good enough reason to as is still so good for what it does so can't justify it!

I have the Versa 3. It has its own GPS and doesn't need your phone for tracking. Just sync to the app once you're back indoors.

I wouldnt say the accuracy is brilliant unless you spend a tonne of cash - although it might be better on Apple - but quite often I run a loop and Strava tells me I have ended up several metres below where I started! But it does give you a reasonable indication of runs that are more versus less hilly

Exactly. It needs a proper barometer to be accurate. Which is generally the higher price watches. Otherwise it will just guess it from GPS. This is fine unless you are climbing mountains. Which some people will be relying on.
