Premier League transfer fees 12:57 - Jan 31 with 2485 views | BlueNomad | Getting even more ridiculous. Clubs spending £20m+ on players who, when you look, have unremarkable records going back over several years at medium sized clubs around Europe. Then there are PL reserves moving for multi-millions, some of whom I suspect are not any different to players we have. This is what we aspire to.................. (Not saying I don't want to get there but we will have to join the craziness)

Absolutely. Being a club that goes from Prem to Championship and back regularly would be decent enough. Maybe if we can really push it we could have a cup at some point and 1-2 seasons in UEFA Conference League over the next 30 years or so.

Although Arsenal are getting slated by a lot of their own fans as 'showing a lack of ambition' with the Jorginho purchase and I quote from a few on the wireless today 'we're in a great position to win the league the board should be splashing the cash now to make sure we will'

51 years ago Man City were walking the league and signed Rodney Marsh "just to make sure." That went well. Lessons from history! [Post edited 31 Jan 2023 13:14]

I think for £12m Jorginho is a very good signing. Will bring some experience and leadership to their midfield. He’s a good player, I think it’s a good signing for them.

In many ways it could be the best signing of the window
Premier League transfer fees on 13:18 - Jan 31 with 2237 views | Hipsterectomy | This will start to trickle down to league 1 and below. I wonder when a League 1 or below club will be the first to get £5/6 mill for a player. Players in the championship can go for £10-15 million now [Post edited 31 Jan 2023 13:19]

Thing is they just need someone competent to cover Elneny, he's certainly an upgrade, whilst keeping the powder dry for the summer. Arsenal fans can be tragic.

Don’t try and complete with the big clubs for the next South American star but maybe attach the club to second tier clubs in USA, Japan as well as Eastern Europe.

Premier League transfer fees on 14:48 - Jan 31 with 1832 views | SuperKieranMcKenna | It’s only sustainable if you follow the Brighton model of finding ‘cheap’ unknown talent and selling them on for a hefty fee. On a related note I saw on of our owners had liked a list of Brightons transfer dealings on Linkdin! I guess when you see the ages and talents that we’ve brought in (Davis, Broadhead, Clarke etc) it’s pretty clear that’s what they aspire to in the longer term.

It's already been done, most had played in Champ previously but been a dozen or so deal over £5m from League 1. These guys were basically straight from L1 upwards Fabian Delph to Villa - £8m Ademola Lookman (half season in Champ then half seaosn in L1) - £7.5m to Everton Nick Powell - who in reality was from L2 as had never played in L1 - £6m to Man U Britt Assombalonga - £5m to Championship Nottingham Forest Dele Alli - £5m to MK Dons Ivan Toney - £5m plus loads of add ons to Championship Brentford Dwight Gayle - £4.5m to Palace (6months after signing for Posh from Dagenham) So basically you have to be a young English superstar (Delph, Lookman, Powell or Alli) or a Peterborough striker (Assonablonga, Toney or Gayle) to get a £5m move out of League 1 without having been in the Championship previously

Nah. Most clubs down here live day to day. They can't afford to hold out for 5 or 6m like we might be able to. £1m for a player is going to be enough to keep a side like Fleetwood for example going for a while. I'm not really concerned about it, but I am more concerned about the disparity that exists between what goes on at the top level and what is happening at a club like Crawley for example. I've been in favour of a surcharge on all Premier League transfers that goes into a pot and then is distributed through the leagues Championship Clubs: 40%,League One Clubs: 33%, League Two Clubs: 27% , excluding clubs in the championship that are receiving parachute payments. Through all transfers in The EPL so far this season, on a 5% surcharge, clubs in L1 would receive in June around £900,000 each. [Post edited 31 Jan 2023 15:12]

All / most of them were pre-Covid. The market seems to have deflated significantly for EFL players since.

I really don't understand Chelsea's transfer policy - Fernandez in for 120m and Jorginho out for 15m, ok there's about a 10 year age gap, but they both do roughly the same job....
