Good listen. Interesting that he said he would never have taken the job at Radio Sufolk if it had been as a commentator. I guess that is why he hasn't moved on Five live or some other national broadcaster as a commentator.

I think he's top draw. A real noticeable drop off in quality since ITFC decided to do the iFollow commentary in-house.

He's head and shoulders about pretty much every other local commentator and a fair few national ones. All the ITV ones, for starters.

It's only since I've iFollowed away games in the past that I've realised what a crock of sh1te most of the regional commentators are and how lucky Suffolk is to have the level of professionalism and expertise that it has in Brenner.

I think that is it isn't it, a lot of other clubs seem to just have supporters and cheerleaders on it who are just there for a natter whilst the game is on.

Brenner is a good pro, who gives you a great overview of what is happening in the game - I much prefer him to the iFollow guy as well from my limited exposure to him as well

To be fair my dog could do a better job than the ITV commentators.
My point was that he is a decent commentator and better than many I've heard on iFollow but his reluctance to take a commentary job isn't the reason that he isn't commentating on R5 in my opinion.
Also the fact that he often couldn't tell KVY and Nsiala apart when commentating was a constant source of annoyance...

A good commentator, although I don't hear him as often now that so many matches are shown on iFollow.

It is rather a waste that when Brenner and a co-commentator travel to away games that iFollow send a separate team. Next season Town TV should buy the commentary off BBC Radio Suffolk, like iFollow did in previous seasons. That can't cost much, and BBC local radio certainly needs all the money it can get! Most of all though, ITFC fans would then get proper independent commentary and analysis. We deserve that when paying over our tenners.

It will never happen.

ITFC haven't taken it in house due to the cost. They've taken it in house to control the narrative.

FWIW, give me Brenner any day. If I could get Radio Suffolk on the interwebs on Saturdays 3pm, I would mute iFollow and sync up with Brenner. Sadly I can't do that.

...but do signatures really work?

Brenner is great for the radio. The Burnley game was the first I listened to live in the radio in years and it was a great experience.

But the radio commentary really doesn’t suit watching the game in iFollow as it’s far too descriptive. Glen gives a far better TV commentary, but I understand how that could be a poor listen for those who only have an audio iFollow pass.

If you buy an audio pass, which is all that is available in the UK without a VPN then you get Glenn's commentary

TV and Radio commentaires are totally different disciplines, and whilst overlaying radio stuff to TV is sub optimal it does work - going the other way round it simply doesn't - and puts Glenn in an impossible position to do his job.

It should be Glenn only for the video broadcast and Brenner only for the audio ones on iFollow - maybe with a choice to take Glenn on audio if you want it as that is the official club one. If the club aren't going to use Brenner for audio then they need to appoint someone to do an audio commentary for iFollow

Radio Suffolk has for some reason been available online quite a few times this season, and I have managed to sync it with the I-follow video.

I don't agree with that at all. Up until this season that was the case anyway, and I am not sure that people objected to Brenner alongside the video, except for those who for some reason have objections to Brenner.

In any event, I have been able to sync Brenner online with the I-follow video several times this season, and in my view it adds immeasurably to the matchday experience compared to the in-house commentary.

Interestingly, Robins TV offers BBC Radio Bristol for the audio coverage. I have a feeling that this is also the case for other clubs who have taken things in-house.

Bristol City's video coverage appears to be fairly professional too, with someone in the studio overlooking the pitch, who hands over to the commentators. They also have another person on hand to analyse the game at half-time and at the end, in contrast to the fairly shoddy fare at half-time that our club offers. They even have someone to interview players after the game.

Will the same thing happen with us next season, or are we doing it all on a shoe-string, which seems to be the case at the moment, even though I realise there are limitations with I-follow still in charge?
