Desperate to get it done this week 00:20 - Apr 24 with 2642 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | I just don’t like the dynamics of the anything can happen last day, especially away at a rubbish ground and small pitch. Only takes one stupid referring decision or lack of concentration (like Cheltenham) for things to suddenly get nervy. That said I’d still back us but it would be nice to get this sorted beforehand. Prediction 4 points out of the next 6 and Wednesday to draw on Saturday means party time against Exeter. [Post edited 24 Apr 2023 0:21]

Desperate to get it done this week on 04:21 - Apr 24 with 2486 views | DanTheMan | I still think it'll be a draw. Annoyingly, or perhaps fortuitously, I'll be flying as we're playing and will probably land just as the game ends. Fingers are crossed for tomorrow. [Post edited 24 Apr 2023 4:22]

This. If you offered me a draw tomorrow I would take it, as it shifts the potential maximum requirement from 6 points down to 4 points in the last 2 games which is massive. FWIW I think Sheff Wed will drop points, perhaps on Saturday and Exeter could be a promotion party, but if we work on the assumption they don't then a point tomorrow is huge. It's effectively worth 2.

Obviously getting it wrapped up on Saturday would be amazing but this is Ipswich.....More twists and turns yet I think.

I would not accept a draw now if offered. I think we can win tomorrow* and then again on Saturday, emphatically putting things beyond all doubt with a match to spare. * Isn't going to be easy, by any means, but believe Town are quite capable of defeating Barnsley at Oakwell, especially with a huge away following. More concerned about Fleetwood, TBH. [Post edited 24 Apr 2023 11:30]

Of course we can win, I don't doubt that at all. I just think a draw goes a long way to giving us what we need to achieve our ambitions this season, so I would take it. The downside risk of a defeat, and the subsequent pressure that puts on our final 2 games outweighs the upside gain of a win in this instance IMO. A draw is effectively worth 2 points to us and would leave us able to draw one of the final 2 and it still be in our hands. Still, there is no scenario where we can take a point and not get on the bus, so lets go there and smash them. I fully expect us to get at them and take the game to them, it's what we know. What I would say though is if it's 0-0 with 10 minutes left I would be perfectly happy to see us run down the clock rather than going gung ho for the win.

Desperate to get it done this week on 10:19 - Apr 24 with 1757 views | LankHenners | Yep, Fleetwood strike me very much as a team that would absolutely love to spoil someone's party, especially on their final home game of the season where they could potentially clinch a top 10 finish which would be a great final standing for them. Be nice to have it wrapped up and the only thing left is to hope to better Plymouth's result to pip them to the title. Hopefully Shrewsbury can go one better than they did against Plymouth to take the pressure off a bit and mean whatever happens tomorrow we can celebrate at home with a full house.

Whereas I see games against lower sides who aim to block and frustrate as more dangerous than those who try to match us at football. Cambridge, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham and, notably, Lincoln. I would much prefer to go into the Fleetwood game not needing anything from it. For me, the risk/reward equation is better served by going all out at Barnsley, even for a late winner (not that I think it will still be goalless after 80 minutes). Of course, the whole thing becomes academic if SheffWed slip up.

I hear what you’re saying… but with Barnsley needing a win to keep top 2 hopes alive I just can’t see a situation where we don’t capitalise on the spaces they’ll leave

Would Fleetwood play with a low block and zero ambition on the final day of the season with nowt at stake? Surely it'd be a chance for them to play with the hand brake off and just enjoy the game? What do they gain out of spoiling a final day game with nothing riding on it for them?

Would they prefer to end their season with a draw, maybe the chance of sneaking a win, or being battered lots to nil?

Yep, and think the mentality in the camp will very much be this. Go there fully focused, execute well, pick up the three points and then get the job finished on Saturday. There's a relentless feel to the way we're playing at the moment and we've bounced back well from the mini blip at Cheltenham. I have confidence in the players to get it done.

I just don't know if a team in safe mid-table will feel the need to defend quite so stoically as say... Port Vale did, who had much more riding on the outcome against us.

Especially in the last quarter, after we have made our substitutions. If we are ahead at that point we will consolidate our lead, if scores are level the fresh players will do the business. Onwards and upwards.

They won't put their bodies on the line in the way Port Vale did but they will still be highly organised and will look to frustrate us. They will be in the mood to cause an upset I'm sure.

Yup, I think not losing tomorrow is crucial. Not that we will be playing for a draw but if you consider we have not lost since the January, it can do things psychologically a little bit, however focused the team is it. This dressing room has not had to talk about a defeat for months so with all the emotional and physical energy exerted recently tomorrow is not the time for it to happen. I think a loss would just prick Wednesday ears up a bit as well. So right now, I’d take a draw, obviously a win is dreamland and no one would be able to see anything else but promotion at that point.
