I've just had a flashback to Jewell's time.

Or it could be the cholera kicking in. (They should be facing criminal charges, not issuing lame PR messages).

Here's something to make you feel even muckier. This is up there with agreeing with Piers Morgan. [Post edited 18 May 2023 10:44]

Good news everyone. on 10:46 - May 18 with 2090 views | Swansea_Blue | All hail Feargal Sharkey for those that aren't aware of his campaigning (yes, that Feargal Sharkey). Look him up on the socials if you want to see what's going on - what we here from the BBC is the tip of the iceberg. Surfers against Sewage is a good resource too for people thinking about dipping their toe in the water. They have a water quality map - https://www.sas.org.uk/water-quality/sewage-pollution-alerts/ (although it relies on the data from the water companies, which sometimes goes missing for spells). Sharkey has really raised the issue in the media and called some some very suspect undertones from the water companies

Not even that. Just sorry that the PR people say they have to make an effort to say sorry today. How can we ever get any accountability? Hang the bastards?

All the usual halfwits will wang on about communism and the 70s, but we have to have at least part state ownership of the utilities with strict regulation and severe penalties for quality breaches, quotas for reinvestment, etc. It's one area that doesn't work without strict regulation and control (unless you want to swim in sh*t). We need some form of protection from corrupt governments too so that regulators have some teeth (see also the NHS).

There must surely be a way of doing state ownership and getting at least private sector level 'productivity' out of workers in this day and age. We won't know until we try. After all, the alternative is the deeply corrupt wealth extraction championed and enabled by corporate-sponsored kleptomaniac Tories leaving behind a run down, filthy third world country. Viva la revolución!

Despite his best efforts it'll be well beyond Wednesday week before we see any real change.
Good news everyone. on 12:35 - May 18 with 1878 views | Churchman | So they’ll ramp up prices (again) and continue to tip the lot into the rivers and seas. Why shouldn’t they? The shareholders want their money, the people concerned don’t live in the U.K. so it really isn’t their problem. Unless these companies are regulated both in what they can do and the price they charge, they’ll continue with their disgusting practices. Their existence and obligation is to maximise profit. It’s the fundamental reason why flogging off utilities for a few pennies was insane. It’s up to government to do something about this, but given the current scum were the idiots that sold off what was already ours in the first place, that’s about as likely as ITFC changing their home kit to vomit yellow and bilious green. I used to be a member of Surfers Against Sewage about 25 years ago when water quality was a real issue (I was in the Thames off Southend once and suffered dreadful stomach upset for a couple days afterwards). I let my membership lapse and they became less prominent as water quality improved. Never thought they'd have to be back to the extent they are.
