Is Putin hanging from a lamppost yet? on 15:28 - Jun 24 by Lord_Lucan
I was referring to whether a large proportion of the regular army revolt.
I've seen reports that some have. Also Wagner mercenaries in Syria and Africa coming home to join in. They've been vital in Putin having influence in those countries.

Wagner are no match for the Russian army but this seriously weakens Putin in the eyes of his inner circle. His end will come from somebody inside.
I don’t know but logically Putins best troops, what’s left of them anyway, are presumably trying to contain the Ukrainian counter attack across a 1200 kilometre front in Ukraine.
In short, what’s he got on the ground in Russia that can get in Wagners way? I read the Russians are using air strikes and helicopter gunships against them but there doesn’t seem to be much else. If he pulls back troops from the front Ukraine are going to love that.
Interesting times.

Interesting, but also dangerous. Makes it more likely than before that he could turn to a tactical nuke to force a Ukrainian withdrawal, whilst he brings troops back from the front to deal with Wagner.
Also possible that, should he take the Nuclear option, he'll face a full scale coup.
The title reminds me of the Iraq war. Someone I know who was in the army told me a few years ago that one of his jobs was to cut down people from lampposts, trees etc. They were hanged by the Ba'ath party for talking to the allied soldiers regardless of how innocent the conversation was. Some were juveniles.

Wagner are "claiming" they have shot down 3 Russian aircraft attacking them.
They are clearly no match for the Russian army in a protracted struggle but they are a well armed and battle hardened force. Most the defence forces inside Russia will have never seen any combat.
No idea what's going to happen really. Could kick off or could fizzle out. Either way it's probably good for the Ukrainians.
It's gone so far now though that if he does stand down I can't imagine he will be alive much longer.

It’s not really the maths. Putin can crush Wagner like a cockroach and probably will. But dictators make enemies. Lots of them. Many have died and been injured for what? Defeating Nazis? Very few of the people serving will believe that or will know what a Nazi is. To defend Russia? They’re in Ukraine so not defending anything.
Given he’s trawled soldiers from god knows where, not only are they untrained most will have no idea why they’re there.
If territory opens up while Russia reorganises itself, take it, but for Ukraine it’s a watch, observe, probe, wait game at the moment - in my totally ignorant view.
As you rightly say, interesting times.

Au cont raise (as the say in Wales). Many of those fighting in Ukraine have been, still are, raw recruits. Much of the best is still in Russia,
thw Wagner bloke seems to be upset that his lot are being used much the same as the Russians - cannon fodder. Even done to using them to attack so as to be able to spot Ukranian artillery.
The hard core of Wagners soldiers are mostly in Syria, Libya, Mali and elsewhere where the 'purloining' of assets/raw materials need protecting. And those hard core, made up of ex special service types, are diminishing.
The thought now is has Putin removed the Wagner leader and will Russia try to absorb many of Wagners forces into the Russian army, as after the SA leadership was shot after the Night of the Long Knives ?

Not accurate by all accounts. Vast majority of forces are committed.
