Yup, been there several times, booked New Year’s Eve in Funchal months in advance & a week before it got cancelled, I played up hell & as a result everything else was booked & couldn’t get accommodation anywhere.
Air b&b phoned me from a call centre in the US trying to resolve it to no avail, if the owner decides he can get a better price locally he just cancels it no recompense to you!

Well that's a pain. It could be genuine though, no way of knowing for sure.
I saw the other day that New York is cracking down on AirBnBs and requiring any hosts using short term rental to register with the city authorities. This is all aimed at bringing properties up to scratch and ensuring there are protections for the renter in place (much as with hotels). It's lead to a big drop off in available properties though (which may be no bad thing in areas which can little afford housing stock to be taken out of circulation and used for short-term holiday homes).

It is in North Cornwall, 10 mins max. from the coast.
We know the area well, so we managed to sort another place out after the initial panic.... it doesn't seem as nice as the original one, but at 24 hours notice, it'll have to do. | |

End users have the power to put them out of business if they're not happy with either the safety (lack of CO & smoke alarms etc.) or, at a deeper level, their use as holiday accom instead of longer-term lets, by refusing to book them. |  |

I booked a week with Vrbo last year when I message the owner she said she didn't know anything about the booking, her apartment now had someone in it for three weeks so she obviously took that booking but nobody told me, Vrbo had taken my money but when I looked again they had returned it but two days before we were to go we were told nothing. | | | |

Might be worth kicking off to Airbnb. A good few years ago now so not sure what their customer service is like but I was quite impressed when it happened to me. Flights etc all booked and accommodation pulled at the 11th hour. Got a full refund immediately and a few hundred quid extra which allowed me to book a last minute hotel that in reality was probably better than what we had booked. |  | | |
