There are always tragedies around rhe world so we might as well have a minute's silence before every football match. It's a game of football, not a church service. If it was a game in Morocco, then absolutely appropriate. |  |

Anyone remember the away game at Millwall where some in the away end got confused about when the minute's silence for Remembrance Day ended and the Millwall supporters started booing and singing "you let your country down"?
Often think football stadiums pre-match aren't a terribly dignified place to perform these sorts of rituals. From the inevitable mis-communications and shushing, the hostility between the two sets of supporters, the silly mascots observing the silence, the cheering and singing the second the silence ends. All miles away from quiet contemplation. |  |

I know people will object but I am with you on this. Unless it is specifically related to the club or occasion there shouldn't be silences or applause. The message gets devalued if there is something every other game. |  |
