By my calculations Morsy already on 4, Hladky up to 3 already...

Not ideal

Hladky has got them for exactly the same thing each time lol. He just needs to be quicker on restarts.

Hladky’s have all been very harsh.

Each time he’s been booked the opposition GK has taken the same time, if not longer to kick it, yet because they’re on the losing team they don’t get carded.

The referee told the Sheff Utd GK on Saturday to ‘just go long’ instead of waiting to go short ffs.

I don't see the ref said anything wrong there. If you don't trust your defenders to accept your pass because they're too tightly marked or not quite as good as Man City's or Real Madrid's, you're going to have to do something else.

Sheffield were doing a lot of time wasting, my guess is that while it remains at 1 - 0 they only need one chance or set piece to go in and get the draw, as well, they knew they were not fit enough to chase the ball for 90 minutes against our high possession game, they were all on their knees for the last 15 minutes of the game.

So the ref can dictate how a team plays?

Absolutely not. The ref can only apply the rules. He can't wait for a goalkeeper who doesn't have the confidence to play the short ball he'd been hoping to play. Conversely, the ref can't object to a team 'wasting time' by knocking the ball back and forth between the goalkeeper and a defender if the other team doesn't press, because it's not against the rules. And, sadly, at present the ref can't penalise a team for wasting time at the other end of the pitch by running the ball up against the corner flag and then huddling around it, because ugly though it is, it's not against the rules, yet. (I recently saw Colchester do this when 3-0 up in extra time at Gillingham, so engrained is this culture of time-wasting.) If the ref was allowed to dictate the aesthetics of the game rather than just follow the rules, he'd surely penalise this.

There were a couple of times on Saturday where just as Hladky was going to go short the Wednesday players decided to press higher up the pitch . I think then he's entirely justified in changing his decision to play it short then. If they've applied a high press throughout the set up and he can't make his mind up then the yellow is probably justified but it does need some context applied.

Morsy was always going to get a cumulative suspension at some point. He's OK for Southampton, that's all that matters atm, imo..Plus we've got Taylor, Ball, Evans who can all step in and do a job. Taylor must be begging for a start..
I'm in agreement with others on Hladky. Rather harsh to be on 3 yellows. I suspect, depending on Waltons readiness, KM will have a word, not just with Hladky, but with others to get set quicker so he can release the ball quicker..

They're entitled to run around as they like. They will have looked at previous games and know what Town like to do, ("They want the keeper to give it the 5, on his left foot", or whatever) and 'anticipate' that move at the last moment and block it off. I'm not saying the ref wasn't too quick to penalise Hladky, (I haven't seen it, and it sounds like he was), but the ref can't wait for ever for the keeper to find a short pass to his liking.

Tuesday night's ref has already booked Morsy and Hladky once each this season, so we know what we can expect from him, but the Hladky booking and JD's in the same game for allegedly time wasting were daft decisions. In fact all of Hladky's bookings have been ridiculous decisions.

Don't think anyone is suggesting they do wait forever. Playing out from the back may take a few seconds longer than lumping it up the pitch though in the same way lining up for a long throw may take a few seconds longer than taking a short throw.

by my reckoning most if not all of Morsy's yellows have been committed after somebody has played him an absolute hospital pass or given the ball away sloppily. Think that may have been the case on Saturday too. Very harsh he'll be the one who picks up the suspension.
