1. You are not a thicko 2. It is complex 3. On the previous thread (linked in the first response to this thread) you will find a couple of links that JohnTy has posted, the first is a briefing document for the Israeli cabinet prepared by a diplomatic commentator and covering about seventy five years of internal United Kingdom politics. It isn't a quick read (took me over an hour) but it is fascinating and in my opinion will give you more understanding than a month of trying to keep up with the spats on here. 4. You still won't get to an answer because it is a dynamic situation.
1. History / Guilt 2. Palestinians are not a powerful lobby group (due to numbers and lack of wealth) 3. Moslems are regarded with suspicion, and worse, in western countries because of terrorist acts by people who claim that religion. (Totally demonised by the Right.)
Obviously far more complex than that but I think that explanation goes some way to explaining it

All these, plus we love the comedy of Larry David, Seinfeld, Jackie Mason. ‘I got offered a gig in Palestine. 1 million dollars. Plus funeral expenses’..

As regards the US's continued support of Israel, I think it's perfectly understandable given it has a Jewish population not much smaller than that of Israel's, along with close cultural ties. And of course there are strategic interests at play too.
I imagine we would similarly support Jamaica, were it under threat, not least because of a sizeable population of Jamaican descent, and with close cultural ties.

The USA has a massive Jewish community, which is also a powerful political lobby.
Among conservative Christians there is a strong urge to protect and nurture Israel. Some of this relates to theology of the "End Times", when events in the region presage the return of Jesus.
During the Cold War, the surrounding Arab nations were backed by the Soviets and many of the Middle Eastern terror organisations were notionally socialist*. Israel was seen as Westernised and a bulwark against that. With the rise of militant Islamism, from the 1990s, that has continued, increased by attacks upon the USA itself.
* Ironically, the founding leaders of Israel planned for it to be a socialist state.

Jewish humour is the best.
And when it comes to dark humour, this from Mel Brooks takes some beating.
"Will the dancing Hitlers please wait in the wings? We are only seeing singing Hitlers."

Like most things, follow the money.
What money? Supporting Israel costs the US nearly $4bn a year in military aid. At a time when they are already spending vast sums on arming the Ukraine that’s not going to be popular with the electorate. What is this trail of money you refer to?

I suppose it's a question of democracy against terrorism.
That's certainly the narrative but it's a massively lop-sided and ultimately unobjective take.
Any analysis that doesn't take into account the occupation and oppression of a weaker population is just a story that far too many people in the West like to tell themselves. The Palestinians deserve so much better than having their reality dismissed.

That’s the second post in this thread referring to money. We all know what that is a code for.
As it is, the financial relationship between the US and Israel is pretty small from a US perspective. In 2021, 0.7% of total U.S. exports were shipped to Israel while 0.7% of total U.S. Imports were delivered from Israel.
No doubt the percentages for Israel will be larger but that's not the subject of this thread.

Well, that's another narrative, which I suspect you prefer. But it still comes down to democracy against terrorism. Just like there was no good response to 9/11 and the London attacks, there will be no good response to the latest atrocity.

"the occupation and oppression of a weaker population" isn't a narrative.
