Positives tonight 21:47 - Nov 1 with 3406 viewsacj

1. Minutes in the legs.
2. Elkan looked great, seemed very comfortable against high-level opposition.
3. Humphreys looked good at LB, gives us another option there in case (God forbid) we’re without Leif at any time.
4. One less game to worry about in an already congested December schedule.

Other takeaways:

Any lingering doubt on the #1 goalkeeper was fully put to bed tonight.
Tuanzebe looks a way off being up to speed.

Think we should be pretty happy with our run in the league cup for this year. Roll on Saturday!

Both of those two have been great this season so far. I imagine back in the summer they would have been two of our players that a fair few town fans had doubts about as we stepped up a level, but both really proven their worth to the squad whenever they’ve been called upon.

That really is a BS comment about the goalkeeper situation. When someone has been out for the time Walton has and the lack of competitive game time, he’s not going to come out and be top of his game. Hladky was always starting at Birmingham even if Walton had a worldie tonight. Judge Walton when he’s fully fit and played half dozen competitive games.

Tuanzebe is bound to be rusty, but there were some good signs from him for me. He looks like the sort of defender who always knows what he's going to do before he gets there, if you know what I mean.

Baggott is going to be something else. I must have seen him play about four times now, and every time he looks so composed and strong and big and he makes good decisions. He's ultra-calm - when he scored his heart rate didn't rise at all, he just checked that someone was picking the ball out of the net to get on with it. He'd be comfortable playing regularly now in the Championship, I reckon, and would be my first choice LCB if Burgess can't play.

Aluko still got it, even if it runs out a bit earlier than it used to.

Humphreys showed his class in patches. I'd like to see him get some league minutes as a sub soon. Could play the Broadhead role second half.

That's the Mickey Mouse Cup out of the way, just the big one and the FA Cup to concentrate on. Hopefully a long FA Cup run for the reserves.

Didn’t really mean to knock Walton, I’m a big fan of his (as I’m sure we all are after the last couple of years). Think he’s very unlucky with the timing of his injury, but can’t see him getting another opportunity before the FA Cup third round unless Hladky gets injured or suspended.

Williams and Davis are having a laugh tonight. Both of them are streets ahead of Clarke and Donacien.

Plus Dominic Ball....dear me ! As having worked hard as Cole Skuse tonight.

Our first 11 is very well fit after tonight for Birmingham as it's the biggest positive... plus Baggott obviously !

He is fully fit and I'm not sure he'll be afforded half a dozen games, unless we he have another cup run. Do agree we should remember him for last season rather than tonight though and should stay supportive.

He’s training fit, not match fit - there's a huge difference between the two.

As a goalkeeper he shouldn't need any more fitness in his legs. If match fitness is being used as an umbrella term to include rustiness/sharpness that's fair.

I’m not sure you’ve ever played in goal have you? Keepers need games to help with their concentration, timing and judgement. You can train as much much as you like, but games have a different tempo and intensity that training doesn’t provide. That’s the reality of the situation.

Tuanzebe playing the full 90 mins after very little football the last 3-4 yrs

No injuries

No fixture congestion when we least need it

I've seen plenty of no. 2 goalies come in after naturally no matchplay and look very good, but fair enough you're not wrong 😅

It was only 4 weeks ago that the majority of our fan base were saying Walton comes straight back into the team after the international break.

I think it's harsh on Clarke to put him on the left side.

Clarke didn't play so well first half but I think he was pretty good after that and finished the game very strongly. Fair comment on Donacien and Ball. Taylor was a mixture of good and not so good, he has looked better with Morsy beside him in the League Eleven.

Massively impressed with the turnout tonight and town fans made a racket even at 3-0 down. Barely heard a peep from fulham.
