Of course it's antisemitism but I am surprised that there are any Jewish people still left in the area given the following, as many had already left for the US and Israel in the years following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

I saw footage of police officers being assaulted, women chanting hate speech (now been arrested), and clashes with people trying to protect the cenotaph being vandalised. But yeah all good natured stuff. | |

Interestingly, I am meeting a Jewish friend who lives in Paris on Monday in London.
I haven't seen him for a while what with Covid and the like, so I'll be interested to hear his take on the situation in Paris and more generally.
As it is, although he grew up in Stamford Hill, his parents weren't Orthodox, so I am not sure he will have suffered antisemitism on the streets himself, given he could easily pass as being southern European, or even Arabic, and doesn't wear any Jewish clothing etc. Sadly, the same cannot be said of many in the Jewish community who are more visible.
