Anti-Jewish anger is at boiling point 10:56 - Oct 30 with 16637 views | blueasfook | Shocking scenes from Dagestan - a mainly Muslim Russian republic. Airport stormed and ransacked looking for Jews. God knows what they would have done to any Jews they might have found. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-67258332 EDIT - I see GB already posted about it below! [Post edited 30 Oct 2023 11:00]

Absolutely awful scenes. Irrespective of your views on Israel v Hamas (and the terrible suffering on both sides), those idiots need a severe history lesson. Not that they would be capable of understanding it of course.

Of course it's antisemitism but I am surprised that there are any Jewish people still left in the area given the following, as many had already left for the US and Israel in the years following the collapse of the Soviet Union. https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/4172/dagestan-terrorism-russia [Post edited 30 Oct 2023 13:23]

It's being seen all over Europe. Many European capitals saw mass protests over the weekend. At what point do these protests become riots? I'd feel pretty unsafe as a Jewish person right now in a place like London, Paris or Berlin.

It's toxic. I never used to understand how some of the events in history happened. Sadly as the years go by I am starting to see more and more how far things can go once you get on the slippery slope.

I thought the London protests were relatively calm, considering the numbers. Didn't look anything close to riots. [Post edited 30 Oct 2023 13:56]

I saw footage of police officers being assaulted, women chanting hate speech (now been arrested), and clashes with people trying to protect the cenotaph being vandalised. But yeah all good natured stuff.

How many people were there and what percentage were causing trouble? In a large crowd, there will generally be some dickheads, taking advantage.

Don't disagree, but my concern as I say, as Israel's actions in Gaza intensifies then the crowds on these marches could become increasingly hostile. If 500,000 people decide to get leary it's not going to be good.

Interestingly, I am meeting a Jewish friend who lives in Paris on Monday in London. I haven't seen him for a while what with Covid and the like, so I'll be interested to hear his take on the situation in Paris and more generally. As it is, although he grew up in Stamford Hill, his parents weren't Orthodox, so I am not sure he will have suffered antisemitism on the streets himself, given he could easily pass as being southern European, or even Arabic, and doesn't wear any Jewish clothing etc. Sadly, the same cannot be said of many in the Jewish community who are more visible. If Israel continues it's onslaught, you might be right, sadly. I hope they see sense and stop. Let's be honest, they're not destroying extremism in Gaza or the wider Arab world, in fact, quite the opposite.

British protests don't tend to go that way though. I could see several European cities having problems should the violence persist or increase.

OMG displaying your own nations flag on rememberance day, disgusting! My entire street is full of stars and stripes on porch's in a heavily democrat area, not sure they are trying to "bait" anyone. The English (especially those with certainly political persuasion) are so weird how they associate any form of patriotism, at least when it comes to their own country.

Not saying it is. And remembrance is sunday anyway. I imagine the march, if there is one that weekend, will be held on a saturday. So the two shouldn't clash.

Again, you know full well that rememberence is a time for reflection. The flag wavers should save it for a football match.

Why does flags have to be for celebration? Especially if remembering those who have specifically died for their country. Maybe it's meaningful for family members, those the left behind, or what they fought for.
