And a FIFA select referee on top of that! I mean, I thought it was a pen.. but to give it the other way and book him was ridiculous!

I know why the pen wasn't given, but the shirt pull on Sarmiento that lead to the goal is inexcusable.

That ref completely bought into the romance today. He was awful.

However, I’m more embarrassed about the fact I’m moaning about the ref.

Surely that compromises the competition? The rules should be the same for all teams. At least when we enter the third round stage.

Yep nonsense isn’t it? Premier teams can get all the dodgy calls reviewed while the rest of us have to lump it!

It's even worse when you consider, for example, West Ham v Bristol City - had VAR in the first game but not the replay. Bristol City v Forest yesterday didn't have VAR but will for the replay. It's the same tie but the rules change.

Saying that, I'm not 100% sure whether VAR would have given a penalty to us. I do think it would have overturned Maidstone's second goal, though.

I can accept that the penalty wasn't given as I don't want to go down the road of blaming officials for us failing to deal with a team in the sixth tier over 90 minutes at home.

But the yellow card was a ridiculous decision. The thing that surprised me was how submissive we were over it. Not a hint of protest.

The fact there was contact and he booked Edmundson for diving would mean he would have to have revisited it, surely? It wasn't a dive, the ref thought it was. He could look at it, decide it was a coming together and withdraw the yellow card but I think he would likely then give the penalty as well.

It is pointless to get a yellow card for dissent as it won't change the decision. However, we did seem to lack passion. There is a middle ground where you show it was a ridiculous call but don't get yourself booked. Chaplin and Morsy did this a couple of times.

I mean, the ref should still do his job properly though, surely? He's made two big non decisions that have cost us a goal and denied us a penalty. If it had just been the other stuff of giving them free kicks for nothing challenges whilst allowing a lot of physical stuff from them then fair enough, but he made bad calls that had a big impact on the result. Of course we should still have had too much for them but that doesn't mean we should ignore the poor refereeing.

See previous statement. The ref didn't stop Broadhead and Taylor turning up.

Do you think the FA care? They’re after Manchester City and an Arsenal level team getting to the finall, they literally don’t give two crud’s about EFL teams.
