James Maddison cut from England squad. 12:51 - Jun 6 with 1885 views | Mercian | That's a bit rough IMO. He probably would have not played or only played a bit part anyway but he offers something different if needed. Mainoo and particularly Wharton should have been cut before him. I can forgive Maddison for his spell up the road, he's a damn good player
James Maddison cut from England squad. on 13:09 - Jun 6 with 1816 views | Illinoisblue | I don’t know. He’s always seemed like a luxury player who’s not actually that much of a luxury.

James Maddison cut from England squad. on 13:22 - Jun 6 with 1770 views | Marshalls_Mullet | He's not up against Mainoo or Wharton. And hes not in the same class as the other forwards. He finished the season in fairly poor form.

James Maddison cut from England squad. on 13:35 - Jun 6 with 1706 views | Dennyx4 | I think it is probably the right decision. Maddison’s best position is a number 10, but you would have him behind Bellingham, Foden and Palmer. It is very likely that Palmer’s emergence this season is what has cost him. If you look at him as a wide forwa4d, which personally don’t believe is his strongest position, he has even more players ahead of him. Even Rashford is likely ahead of him in that role and he didn’t even make the enlarged squad. Finally comparing to Wharton and Mainoo is comparing apples and pears. These two have been given a chance in the central midfield spots, due to Henderson’s age and decline, as well as the extremely poor form of Phillips. It is still likely that Wharton may still miss out too.
James Maddison cut from England squad. on 13:38 - Jun 6 with 1680 views | hunty21 | The right decision look who is in front of hom palmer, foden Bellingham saka grealish , what's the point if he's too similar a player and would never play we need players in a variety of positions , defensive and attacking
James Maddison cut from England squad. on 13:41 - Jun 6 with 1667 views | wellsy700 | He's a brilliant player, but he lacks versatility. He either plays in the number 10 position or he doesn't play at all, unfortunately for him Foden, Bellingham and Palmer are all ahead of him in that role

James Maddison cut from England squad. on 14:17 - Jun 6 with 1608 views | bsw72 | He lacks substance to his game and versatility, which makes him easier to mark out of a game at an international level. There are better players remaining in the squad who are better at tracking back, tackling as well as their attacking abilities. [Post edited 6 Jun 2024 14:19]

James Maddison cut from England squad. on 14:30 - Jun 6 with 1570 views | Reus30 | Mainoo has had a great season in a poor Utd team Wharton has been great for both his clubs and looked very good at the weekend. JM is a luxury player, not exactly young and Southgate knows his style. I think it's a good decision and I hope he is strong and keeps the two youngsters in midfield and leaves the likes of Grealish and Toney at home. Same with Henderson (GK), time for Trafford to be No.3 and get some experience as he is the future. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
James Maddison cut from England squad. on 15:15 - Jun 6 with 1466 views | Mercian | It is just my opinion which is not shared, I am in the minority so fair enough. Does it really warrant a down vote though? The first I have ever had.

Now you have two :) Don't take it to heart like some do around here. Someone almost had a fit the other day because they got 10 down votes. It's not a big deal. I love a downvote - it makes me a feel like a bad boy.
