Who still puts flags up? on 10:51 - Jun 14 with 4080 views | _clive_baker_ | I've got a cycle route I do quite regularly around mine and I pass a house that has a fooking great flag pole in the garden with a Union Jack at the top. It looks a nice pad, although a bit like a golf course club house with that flag outside. Always has struck me as a bit weird to have that in your garden, not sure why anyone would bother going to the effort or expense but each to their own innit.

I always envisage a skinny old retired Lieutenant Colonel marching around his perimeter (a white picket fence), on a manicured lawn with an Alsatian and a five iron when I see one of them. Popping inside for tiffin at the proper hour, of course. Either that or a total tvvat.

I bought several St George's cross flags. They have been very effective in keeping the birds off my seedlings.
Who still puts flags up? on 11:58 - Jun 14 with 3842 views | Steve_M | It's reduced a lot from a few years back when there were loads around London, maybe it'll pick up a bit more once the tournament starts as it still feels like it's crept up a bit. The resurgence in the St Georges Cross and the visible displays around tournaments was helpful in reclaiming the flag from the far right. Car flags though, they were a bit crap so no wonder they don't exist in numbers any more.

I wonder if that's unique to the St George's Cross, or if other flags would work just as well? Maybe it's St George's righteous fervour that keeps the birds away 🤷♂️ You may have made an important breakthrough in the gardening world!

Probably for the same reason people wear their club colours to matches? That sense of tribal identity and all that guff.

It's a Union Flag. It's only called a Union Jack when it is on a ship.

They were mostly pigeons that ate my seeds. However I have found the blue and white flags I have had out recently have been very good at keeping local Budgies at a distance
