Ben Johnson for Burns 18:54 - Aug 17 with 4209 views | carlo88 | When we subbed Wes off for his injury in the second half and brought on Johnson (defender for an attacker) I couldn't work out the new formation at all. Can anyone enlighten me as to what it was?
Ben Johnson for Burns on 18:59 - Aug 17 with 4092 views | Zx1988 | I think Johnson slotted in at RM, and then dropped back to RB once Tuanzebe went off. Either that, or we reverted temporarily to the central three that we started with and fairly rapidly ditched.

Ben Johnson for Burns on 18:59 - Aug 17 with 4076 views | Guthrum | Don't think of Johnson as an attacker or defender. He is there to operate all the way up and down the right-hand touchline. Old formation notation is becoming increasingly outmoded as Full Backs become Wingbacks and sometimes get Inverted. Wingers operate more like Inside Forwards and so on. Midfielders move all over the place. Arrangements while defending are different to attacking with the ball, too.

Ben Johnson for Burns on 19:03 - Aug 17 with 4037 views | Swansea_Blue | BBC reported it as wing backs and 3 at the back. It didn’t sound like the change did us much good, but I couldn’t watch it so I don’t know if that’s true.

Ben Johnson for Burns on 19:11 - Aug 17 with 3930 views | RIPbobby | Luis Diaz gave him a terrible time late on. I can see why the manager played Tuanzebe to start with.
Ben Johnson for Burns on 19:43 - Aug 17 with 3703 views | Scuzzer | McKenna doesn't get much wrong with his subs, but I was not enamoured with that one. Should have seen Harness come on on the left with Omari switching to the right. Thought Johnson was pretty well way off it. Just goes to prove how essential Wes is to how we play. And Liverpool scored both their goals straight after we made our substitutions.

Ben Johnson for Burns on 21:24 - Aug 17 with 3174 views | portmanking | I actually thought everything went to pot when Burns did his hammy. We had a 3-4 min spell of having to play with ten men which knocked our rhythm. Then Johnson came on and seemed to struggle with the game being played around him rather than in front of him.

I think it was coincidence rather than johnson's fault. Liverpool just happened to be getting right on.top of us when wes went off.

Yeah, I felt for Johnson a bit It was kinda like trying to jump on a treadmill when it's set to sprint level. Liverpool had clicked by then and were pinging those passes around so quickly he was caught too high up a number of times. When Tuanzebe came off he looked absolutely rinsed. Don't think much would have changed if Burns had stayed in. Nothing to do with Burns himself he was fine. We had lost the battle in the middle of the park. It started with Liverpool easily being able to pass through the middle of the pitch which they hadn't been able to do for the first 50 odd minutes. Our press stopped high up the pitch understandably and our cms got bypassed with ease. I must say of all the impressive games yesterday taylors was the worst. He had an awful time. But it was nice for him to be involved.

Hmmm.... I think it was more the fact that with Burns going off, Liverpool knew there wasn't any threat to worry about with Johnson on that side so they started to go all out down there. I don't really like writing players off but I've seen Johnson play a number of times now and I'm not sure he's any better than Janoi who we're likely to release.

Heard Mo Salah being interviewed after the match and he said that it was very hot out there. The heat and Liverpool stepping it up after the break took its toll on our mature midfielders especially. Not sure that Liverpool would have been able to keep up the pace if we had been able to hold out for that purple patch after half time. Not sure the Johnson for Burns substitution caused the team to play less well.

Agreed. I don't think Burns staying on would have changed anything. Just was coincidental that he went off and Liverpool dominated even more
