"It's been a great platform for young coaches coming through, so I'm surprised they haven't gone in with one of their own. But they've made the decision and I wish him all the best, and I hope he does well for us." Seem fairly reasonable comments to me.

Weird comments from Rooney on 08:26 - Oct 18 with 1735 views | itfcjoe | Asked a question and gave a thoughtful honest answer, which many people will agree with - that the headline writers just take 1 word out of it to spin it negatively isn't a stick to beat him with

And quite probably in the spoken answer he gave there wasn’t necessarily any extra emphasis on that word either.

Sorry accidental downvote - completely agree but why let that stop the smug getting their dual ‘LOL Rooney’ and ‘anyone who thinks the England manager being German isn’t ideal is a mad racist’ kicks

Weird comments from Rooney on 09:50 - Oct 18 with 1519 views | bsw72 | I fail to see what is weird about his comments. He states that the FA have invested a lot of time and money over the last 10-15 years developing a pathway for English coaches and managers, yet have appointed Tuchel. He makes an interesting point that he has experienced when a non English England coach is at a major tournament watching their home nation, and that it was not ideal in his opinion - but that is his personal view - and I wonder whether that is more of a dig against the character of Capello rather than Eriksson. I never felt Capello was truly invested in a successful England . . .

Can understand your reaction and it's not invalid just because people disagree, Rooney's comments does add to what feels like a bit of a pile on from some segments of media. We scream and shout about the fact we should be winning a major tournaments and we have the players to do it, we hire an elite manager with pretty recent evidence of success (and experience managing English players), and people downplay it because it doesn't the fit vague and probably made up 'pathway' idea from the FA.
