I understand why they do it in order to cynically gain a match advantage, but I don't understand why they still do it with the advent of VAR where there is no way Hojlund could be sent off. [Post edited 15 Dec 2024 17:38]

The thing is, if the FA was serious about stamping feigning out of the game then it’ll be relatively easy. Using that Kyle Walker incident as an example -
VAR: Anthony, Kyle Walker went down clutching his face trying to get the United player sent off. There was no contact.
Ref: Let’s have a look at it then.
VAR review possible red card incident.
Ref reviews incident, no contact and as it’s a deliberate attempt to get a player sent off the red card goes to the player feigning injury. |  | | |

The Cucurella incident at St Mary's the other week is proof play acting still works, VAR or no VAR, so in a perverse way you have to credit Walker for trying it.
