Interesting McKenna quote 21:38 - May 25 with 4120 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | I don’t like to read too much into all this stuff but it was vaguely interesting I thought. When finishing up his interview about looking forward to next season “It’s up to us build a new team, a team they can be proud of, a winning team”. Nothing earth shattering in there but I think we are at the crossroads somewhat in terms of recruitment, obviously a lot of the core from the back to backs have gone, so the argument for continuity isn’t really there as much. I’m sure a few will play a part squad wise but I think there will be more changes than some people think and a lot more goodbyes than just the official ones we knew about today.
Interesting McKenna quote on 21:40 - May 25 with 3723 views | Zx1988 | The quote that was interesting was this: "We decided in the week to focus, to go with the lads who are going to be here next year or permanently with us." A very interesting and specific distinction to make. I'm hoping against hope that it suggests we're having Cajuste on another year's loan.

Possibly but if you’re going hard on that way of thinking, it could also indicate Jack Clarke is off. He might have also just thought he is one of our better players and wanted to give us a chance to still win and unlike Delap not like we can sell him, so wasn’t risking injury in terms of a sale. Either way, there’s a few positions/players where we need to look to the future this summer as well as maximizing the fees in any possible departures.

I think we’ll do well to hold onto O’Shea and Davis tbh. With loans included, there is probably a 12-15 player turnover in the squad to come

There are going to be some players who the club doesn't know will be leaving at the moment. However, the suggestion is Tuanzebe is likely to sign. Jack Clarke not starting doesn't mean a lot to mean. He came on just like he has 20-odd other times this season. Does it mean Davis and Hutchinson will be here next season? I wouldn't be sure of that but I would suggest it means no approaches that interest us or hit clauses have been made as yet.

Interesting McKenna quote on 21:50 - May 25 with 3513 views | ParisBlue | Feels like the end of an era, I wonder if there will be a few reels with empty chairs before a player rocks up saying "it's been great, but time to say goodbye" If you take the loanees out, Delap will leave, potentially Omari, Davis and O'Shea, maybe Morsy as well (if Saudi remains and option), Burgess, Axel at end of contracts, then we're almost starting from scratch. I also imagine that KM will have been given some sort of guarantees about the levels of players we're after to entice him to stay. Big summer. It's been a while since we've heard from Mark Ashton but I imagine we'll hear something this week.

I think it says we aren’t looking or don’t need to sell certain players. Doesn’t mean they’ll be here though. Hutchinson, Davis, O’Shea, Tuanzebe and Johnson must be doubts to start with us in August.

Or it could have just been an off the cuff comment as Delap didn’t start and Ensico had gone back. The club will no way be 100% sure on players like Davis you’re right, I’d suggest if 20M or over came in, we’d be selling.

I think it’s important to replace Morsy personally. For me his role isn’t as a squad player after being a captain and leader this long. Could he do it next year? Probably but he isn’t getting any younger. We have money to spend and should be looking at a player(s) that have different attributes and can maybe make the step up if we go up. That’s the way I’d be thinking. Try and get some more pace and physicality in now. No problem with some battle tested Champ players in the squad but we are in one of the strongest positions we have been in financially, ever. Need to put it to use. [Post edited 25 May 22:20]

Interesting McKenna quote on 22:25 - May 25 with 3061 views | SuperKieranMcKenna | Continuity got us to the PL but in my opinion it’s not the be all and end all. Forest ripped up their squad on promotion (admittedly a number of loans in there) but they never looked back. WHEN we get back to the PL we need to more of a mixture - not just the best from the Championship, the leap is just too big now.

I thought it was a bit of a strange thing to do and admit to. There’ll be a few of today’s team who won’t be here next season.

I make it 7 starting and 3 on the bench (unless Jack Taylor counts as a 4th). In response to your edit I thought you were replying to "a lot of the core from the back to backs have gone, so the argument for continuity isn’t really there as much" which I read the same way you appeared to have. It will have to be a completely different strategy next time. We had a squad far too good for league 1 and momentum on our side in 23/24. The reality is, unsurprisingly hardly any were good enough for the PL. I think more change in personnel happens though. Hopefully we find a few more that could actually make the step up if we were to make it back. Important to continue development of some of those younger ones we brought in last summer as well.

We’re in the underpinning foundation stage, as we build a bigger and better house above it imo. I believe we sre on safe hands with Ashton and our owners and will give McKenna all he needs while building stronger foundations for the club for the future.

Don’t disagree but I think Ashton might need some additional help and guidance at the highest level. I’m not sure of the size of our scouting network but with the quick progress through the leagues I’m sure that’s an area that’s being looked into. We need to keep building and learning as we go. There have been a couple of instances that looked a little too close to almost a panic buy this year and also a few where similar profile of player was purchased for a large sum, which I found interesting. That said, without knowing the short lists and being a fly on the wall it’s hard to say how it all looked really. It’s also hard to grade our business as a PL club without seeing next season goes.

Yes - this is the first window where we operate from a position of real strength. Massive test for those charged with recruitment. I think Morsy has another season in him and wouldn’t be at all surprised if he starts in August.

For me, one of the biggest problems off the pitch is Ashton doing duel roles. Someone else needs to come in to replace O'Leary.

Interesting McKenna quote on 11:49 - May 26 with 1552 views | norfsufblue | Having read most of this thread i think its wrong to believe if they didnt start theres a risk we are selling.... football is now 16 man playing team and up to 25 squad .... subs are part of the game obviously... the only ones we can genuinely be sure about are Liam Delap and Encisco, Personally i think Jack Clarke has the higest ceiling of all the rest, and that includes Hutch... O know dome wont agree but he is the one player that has developed into something more than he was before he arrived... and he has had to do it against much better players!... However i need a break from it all so hopefully Kents T20 side will help me through the summer ( not holding out much hope there though😂)

I thought him and Szmodics showed a really good understanding out there yesterday, which was impressive considering they have barely played together, if at all.

Taylor didn’t really impress too much in the Championship and looked some way off the Premiership despite all our injuries and struggles he couldn’t nail down a starting place. One of the few players I haven’t seen much improvement under McKenna’s coaching. Perhaps his best position is further up the pitch but we have enough talent in that area already so think in an offer comes him I wouldn’t be disappointed if he moved on.

What is this based on? IIRC O'Leary only actually did two days a week anyway so it's not like Ashton has taken on another additional full time role.
