Surprise Player Next Season 15:29 - Jul 6 with 4336 viewsMetal_Hacker

With the lack of transfer activity lately it got me thinking who could be the most surprising package from the crop of players we have next season ?

Perhaps we’ve seen it elsewhere with them wearing the colours of a different team ie Jack Clarke etc but we’ve not yet seen their true potential in a Town shirt

Could it be (dare I say Muric) finding some Burnley form
Possibly Ben Johnson making RWB his own
Maybe it will Jack Clarke with his Sunderland form
It might be George Hirst stepping in from the shadows of LD
Cam Humphreys or maybe Jack Taylor in misfield

Who would be your surprise package next season and why ?

Poll: Philogene Conundrum

Genuinely cannot wait to see Philogene next season. In a team that’s going to have a lot of the ball and the freedom to attack more, he’ll be class.

Double figures in both goals and assists. Bookmark that if you like.

To be fair, that's not a wild shout.

He should be delivering 20 goal involvements.

Cam Humphreys, building on his very successful season last year. It’s a long shot, but you did say surprise.

I think (hope!) Jack Clarke will shine and put his frustrations behind him, but that wouldn’t be as big a surprise given his last season at Sunderland.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Would be a massive bonus if it were to happen and I see no reason why not considering his style

Could be like a new signing in itself to be honest

To be honest, if perhaps a little arrogant, then the only surprises should be our players not smashing it in the championship!

Johnson: played 70 prem games and 20 European games before last season.
Philogene: 20 odd goals and assists last championship season, regular England u21, including 4 goals
Szmodic top scorer and team of season
Davis top assists, assists record and team of season
Greaves team of the season.
Hutchinson, absolute class apart if he stays. Big if.
Jack Clarke 15 goals 4 assists last championship season.
Ogbene 8 goals 4 assists last champ, then 30 prem games, 4 goals 3 assists
O shea 95 prem games now, regular international
Chappers and Broadhead, joint top scorers in last championship season.
Palmer second most clean sheets, 18, in last championship season.

Plus the also rans like Burns, Hirst, Woolf, Morsy, Clarke, Townsend, Muric, Walton, Taylor, Humphreys...

I suppose my point was just that there are only a few candidates for a genuine surprise. Which bodes well I think!

We all know how good our promoted team was, the additions, for all their premier league faults, all have huge pedigree back in the championship.

So in terms of a genuine surprise, maybe Humphreys coming through to be a squad regular?

Didn't mean to deflate the thread, sorry!! If anything the opposite, to enthuse about how good we could be despite a bit of boredom based gloom that seems to be creeping in from some.

He'll tear it up in this side at this level.

Going to several stand out. Ogbene is going to boss the wing with his pace. Clarke and Jaden up to with Szmods - that’s a wow!

I can't see Hirst playing the Davis role to be honest.

I do see Jack Taylor more as a misfielder, though!

As for surprise packages, I do like the shout for Ogbene. Maybe someone will step up from the U21s and be a star. Aside from that, I am not sure what a surprise would look like from any of the main squad, aside from it being a negative one!

Last time he was in the Champ he got 12 goals and 6 assists in 32 matches. So it's not exactly a hot take.

I may be wrong but I think there was some confusion because the original reference was to Harry Clarke.

Jaden and Jack Clarke are the two I’m looking forward to seeing this season. Not sure when we see Burns back, but I don’t think he’ll be half the player he was. Hope I’m wrong though about Burns.
