I’m a bit less surprised when it come’s to Sam leaving than a few others. 03:14 - Jul 16 with 1488 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | Sure a lot of this has been said but was traveling so haven’t had a chance to catch up. The club is in a position financially where looking forward and upgrading areas of the pitch is so important. The more you think of last season the more it was buying for the future and just hoping some patchwork deals came off with the likes of Phillips etc. I said to a few people, I just don’t see Morsy as a player you’d bring on in games, he’s your captain/leader or he leaves for a pay day was my prediction. He done himself proud last year! I think there were a few signs showing by the end of the season he wasn’t going to be playing the same level as a few years back, albeit harder to judge against PL opposition. He would have been very handy for us, especially early on this season but I doubt wants to be worried about sitting on the bench by October. He’s still in decent shape and if the money on the table is big in the Middle East you’ve got to doubt whether Town would have giving him a really lucrative one year deal. An unbelievable ITFC hero who achieved so much at a late stage in his career and proof that sometimes timing in life is everything. A Paul Cook purchase who absolutely excelled under McKenna and will go down as a true legend of the club. We move forward though and the incoming players will be exciting. Might take a little time to gel but the names being thrown around along with one decent signing is showing our current ambition! [Post edited 16 Jul 3:20]

Definitely a tough one to see go but if it wasn’t for Game Changer and KM, a lot of football fans would have barely heard of him. Instead he was hoisted aloft on our fans shoulders in May two years in a row. He also captained a Premier League club and played against some of the world’s best. Yeah last year was tough season but what a Town career for him. Trying to find the right wording but in a strange way almost proud of the club for moving on (if there was contractual issues). Kind of shows where our mindset is right now. End of the day Morsy (and all of that 23/24 team for that matter) will be a strong part of our great history. Sometimes leaving when you’re somewhat on-top is the nicest way to say goodbye as well. [Post edited 16 Jul 3:37]

As Perublue said, perfectly summed up. Great leader, who will be ,missed, but the right move for the player who wants to keep starting matches and the right move for the club who need to continually improve. Who could have imagined when Morsy signed that he would have achieved what he did with us?

"Sometimes leaving when you’re somewhat on-top is the nicest way to say goodbye as well." I agree with this in the sense we don't have to go through him getting less game time and seeing him not being so imperious. He's leaving when he's still wanted. And I'm not keen on the 'one last chance to give him a send off'. No need.... think he knows already.

He’ll be 34 in a couple of months and will be slowing down. A new deal was highly unlikely given we’d need to replace him in 12 months if we go back up. It makes perfect sense from a football and personal perspective. Just a bit as that an era is coming to an end. He’s us.

I’m a bit less surprised when it come’s to Sam leaving than a few others. on 08:36 - Jul 16 with 482 views | Herbivore | Well summed up I'd say. Morsy would have had a role to play this season I'm sure, but not as the nailed on starter he was 2 years ago. At his age and with one year left on his contract, he'll be wanting to play every week and ideally to secure one last good pay day before he retires. I'm sure he's not exactly hard up but nor has he had the kind of career that will have made him millions. It makes sense for both parties to move on. He'll always be a part of our history and he's had a fantastic few years here.

I think most of us thought he'd see out the contract and move on a free next year but then being 35 it may have been now or never for that contact. He goes with our thanks.

I’m a bit less surprised when it come’s to Sam leaving than a few others. on 09:07 - Jul 16 with 337 views | Blue_In_Boston | I guess as fans we glory in the past and celebrate our heroes. The job of Ashton and KMK is to put those sentiments to one side and build for the future, and sometimes that can appear ruthless. I don't blame Morsy for seeking alternative clubs, in all honesty if we are to get promoted I couldn't see him being in our Premier League plans. At his age he is better to seek a longer contract than what we are probably offering. Good luck to him, he is certainly a club legend in the post Sir Bobby era.
I’m a bit less surprised when it come’s to Sam leaving than a few others. on 09:35 - Jul 16 with 292 views | BeachBlue | I agree with your post. For me Sam Morsy leaving is more emotional, than analytical. He really does embody everything about the clubs renaissance in recent years, along with Burns and Chaplin. Change isn't easy sometimes.
I’m a bit less surprised when it come’s to Sam leaving than a few others. on 09:37 - Jul 16 with 275 views | hype313 | Totally agree. We've done right by Sam given what he has done for us, we're clearly looking for fresher legs in the middle of the park, he might have been a bit part next season, but if we were to go up he would be leaving anyway, this way he gets a nice pension and we free up big wages to help us this coming season. Obviously gutted to see him go, but I can see the rational behind it.
