Yes and no. Came down and had conversations but we couldn't get a deal agreed and Sunderland phoned and offered what he wanted and that was that.
We should have got that deal done but he didn't pull out, nothing got agreed, were being too tight |  |

Thought we couldn’t agree a few with Watford, so Sheepy said we’d go to a tribunal.
Only problem was we were already going to tribunal for the sale of Tony Vaughan to Man City, and the League rules were such that you could only have one tribunal pending at a time.
As soon as Phillips left ITFC grounds, his agent called him to say Sunderland had agreed a fee with Watford and he drove straight there from us. | |
