EADT demanding an apology 11:40 - Mar 26 with 6392 viewsMacedonian_Gerrard

measured piece from the EADT https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/2

think its by and large what most fans recognise is needed at this point especially as we've been hitting the national press for all the wrong reasons. your move mr. ashton......

That has to be the worst, outdated website on the net. Is the article behind a paywall? I couldn't see it for adverts.

Great article.

This particular section feels especially pointed:

"Ashton, the man behind so many good things that have happened at Town over the past five years, has always been fond of stressing ‘we will make mistakes’ when engaging with both fans and the media.

As far as I’m aware, he’s never actually admitted to or identified any mistakes that have been made to date."

Yeah - does rather undermine the whole point of the article. I assume it’s “speaking for the fans”, 99% of whom can’t read it.

It's a typically designed local news site, i.e full of ads left right and centre, but doesn't seem to be behind a paywall for me.

Glad they’ve done that and the line that the club were either naive or complicit is the crux of the matter for me.

That they’ve not distanced themselves from it makes the naivety excuse less likely by the day and as such an apology, whilst appreciated, might not be the end of it.

Given it's from one of the club's tamest media outlets, before I read it I wondered if it was a bit of a set-up job. Ashton letting them know an apology will be forthcoming, and therefore giving them permission to demand one.

Having read the article, the tone suggests anything but.

Putting the whole subscription thing to one side, I agree with the article and the sentiment...with one caveat.

I am confident (I don't *know* of course) that we've been lied to about this, and that's not acceptable. Errors are understandable, however large, but I think we've been lied to as well and an apology only completely works for me if it addresses that issue as well.

Someone is lying - ITFC or Reform. Obviously we hope it's Reform (and no one would be surprised) but I want to know for sure.

Yes no punches pulled there, and rightly so. Something I've often thought myself whenever Ashton wheels that line out.

Also good for them to highlight Ashton himself making a rallying call for 'unity' only a few days prior.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

It also suggests this isn't just going to go away. Sticking their head in the sand is not an option.

And I doubt McKenna is very happy being put into memes with quotes like "Work will set you free".

The club have brought this onto everyone and need to come out and show some proper contrition.

He'll be raging at that meme. And at Farage saying he has heard the manager's job may become available if Ipswich aren't promoted this year.

It's a superb, well balanced and brave piece of journalism from Mark Heath, well done that man.
In my professional life, I've had to be the investigating officer in a number of disciplinary cases. The overriding consideration is always that people make mistakes, we are human - but when you make a mistake, own it and apologise fully and mean it. Heathy has laid it out clear as day here. MA needs to take responsibility, apologise, and see if he can ride it out, because it's only getting worse by the hour.

Who do you think the Mark is on the signed shirt? .., and the senior official that invited them?

They wouldn’t have had that access, and the press passes without senior sign off, it’s not possible!!

You go and try to get access, book a tour, see how you get on when you bring a film crew!! Tables set out, shirts to sign, fake contracts, you need to wake up buddy.

This is why Ashton has lights you …, it’s easy!!! You want him to say it’s not him and apologise, sack a lower ranked employee, and he WILL do exactly that, someone will get a fantastic pay off to save Marks career!!

And you’ll swallow that .., sale our club, our culture, our history, our potential down the river just because it’s EASY!!!

Turn the lights off on your way out.., you didn’t need to be Sherlock - you just needed to put our club before what was easy!!

Mark 100% signed it off and he’s quiet because he now needs to crisis manage - having phones to get other politicians here .., paying off someone to carry the can .., he’ll do anything to keep his career on the gravy train.

That you actually want that too - I’ll be honest, it makes me sick.

‘Love to Mark’ - maybe Mark is the clubs nickname for the tea lady? .., for gods sake - Mark worked his arse off to get all the power and be the only voice in the room for decision making .., he put his future career above OUR club, he knows reform resonate here, and he took a gamble .., and for him and his career, it’s probably a good thing.

But he’s destroyed our club our brand equity our commercial value.

I wonder if he was out in the summer anyway, Brett and others haven’t been happy with him relative to resources, and he’s looking after number one.

Either way .., stop accepting the Mark Ashtons of the world for a quiet life!!! Our club is more important than you not being able to process you were wrong about Mark!!

Ego. Let it go. You were wrong about him, and we move forwards, together and without his ego anywhere near our club, our brand, our community.

This will get seriously awkward for the Club when Kieran gets asked about it in the presser. Even if the locals (understandably) don’t see it as a question for him, that Moose of TalkSPORT or some other national is bound to.

The irony being the manager of our Mens 1st team will continue to be more articulate, humble, principled and a stronger brand ambassador than anyone in the boardroom. As he has been from day 1.

The only thing we have heard from the club on the issue suggests that those in control don't feel as though they have anything to apologise for. Given how long it is taking for the club to add anything further, I would struggle to believe any attempted apology anyway, were it to be forthcoming.
