People moaning about being linked with Azeez. Jesus Christ.

They still haven't learnt anything have they after last season?

Depressing.

The social media pages were predictably the worst.

"We need a striker"
"We need Premier League players"
"That worked well last time"
etc etc

Almost as if they actually think Azeez would be the sum total of our business this summer.

Not all links are going to have people behind them JD, even more so with prem in mind and the last time we signed the championship dream team we came down without a whimper

I think an Azeez signing is ok, i like him, but i wouldn't want that to be our strategy this summer, but certainly wouldn't say no to him because it doesn't meet my preferred strategy

It's bloody outrageous.

I cannot believe any of them were actually supporting the club pre takeover to be honest.

Yep. It's the extrapolation to get frustrated and annoyed that is such a weird contortion. 'Oh, so we're going to buy all of our players exactly the same as last time are we, what a joke'.
If we do that then maybe allow yourself a bit of a moan after the 7th Championship all star steps in the building, but actively seeking it out after being LINKED with ONE player is just a sign of some sort of need to see the bad in everything.

Fair enough, I don't expect everyone to think the same, but the attitude towards one of this season's standout players is just disgraceful.

Some of these 'fans' epitomise everything wrong with soulless and mindless modern game.

Like watching arsenal fans in replica shirts in Essex pubs who when they didn't win said things like 'Van Persie is *"££'.

I don’t think it’s entitled to question signing Azeez.

We’re probably going to be spending around £120-£140m this summer and going to need to spend around 15% of that budget to sign him.

Does he improve our squad right now? Absolutely, no question. What some are questioning is whether he’s good enough for the premier league. Let’s not forget the gap in quality between the CH and PL.

Ive watched him quite a bit this year and seen little to suggest he’ll do any better than Clarke or Philogene in the PL, who were found to be some way short last time we were there.

We all saw the pace and physicality of the PL and IMO, I’d like us to target attackers with proper pace. Azeez isn’t slow but he’s not electric.

Personally, I'm not overly keen on signing players from the Championship (EDIT: as our sole approach) - as I have posted about already.

That said, if I am being objective, then it would rather depend on what other players come in.

So, if someone like Azeez comes in but alongside a few more established Prem players - then that's something I can get behind.

wtf are you on about? Such an arrogant post.
I for one don't think Azeez is good enough, so I really hope it's just speculation. And for the record, I also don't think Mehmeti is good enough. Is Nunez good enough? Don't know. We have to be using overseas markets, because British players are overpriced - we can't be spending 15% of our transfer budget on a player like Azeez who is completely unproven at higher levels and has had one decent season in the Championship. I think that is what people are concerned about, and it's an entirely justified concern.

That is a reasoned critique of signing a specific player. It sounds well thought out and knowledgeable, you've possibly convinced me, and I would like to think no one is moaning in that direction.

I believe what people are moaning about, at least I am, is the random moans that come with it about 'not learning lessons' needing a striker, like players have to be bought in order of need or preference, or wider points based on some weird overblown expectation of playing championship manager and or sky Sports News with big clubs seemingly doing great deals for great players and it all being simple and tick box and crucially all working out. Cherry picking the 5 percent of perfect transfers and comparing them to our inevitable worst ones. And all off the back of one link!

You get it the other way too. Pre-Gamechanger, that summer where we got Harper and Edwards, people were saying how fantastic they were...........They weren't (yes Edwards was exciting and OK, but not the world beater he was made out to be).

I think the best thing most people can do, is wait and see, unless you have extensive knowledge or viewing of a player.

Fans moaning about other fans moaning seems to be a new thing too...........!

Like it or not, Azeez is the kind of signing we made when we went up last time (I.e.Clarke) which ultimately didn't lead to us staying in the league, so I understand those opinions.

What about learning from the season before, when we were in the Premier League, and we were relegated.

Considering we are going back to the Premier League, I would suggest that is the best time to learn from.

More recent evidence suggests that, at the very very least, you need a real quality striker.

Leeds and Sunderland have both profited, not least, because of Calvert-Lewin and Brobbey - both quality strikers.

The arrogance is entirely the supporters who have jumped on the bandwagon and are angrily screaming from their highchairs for galaticos at the first period of sustained success the club has had in nearly a quarter of a century.

What do you think KM would say about Mehmeti and Nunez and Azeez? They are very good young players with potential to play at the highest level. KM works with players and improves them. I'm excited to see them have the opportunity!

There's no such thing as a 'prem player'. They will all have played at a lower level at some point.

If KM likes Azeez, then I'd put more weight behind that than 'fans' mouthing off.

Where were all these people when it was Drinan toiling up front in his own?

That's a more balanced take. And fair points. A million miles away from the office reaction of some.

If KM likes a player then we tend to go back. That's a good sign to me.

And the key point for me is KM is never really interested in individuals as signings. It's all about profile in the team set up. If he thinks Azeez makes us stronger then he's right.

Plus can we just appreciate being about to buy the championship's best talent for 15m after the transfer day wilderness of the years before?

It's like last year. People saying Azor was an underwhelming signing. He was c ab ex Ajax 8m pound midfielder! I still haven't got over that this is the new birthday!

For those getting defensive in this thread, I think possibly you are missing the point a bit.

Discussion about the merits of players we are linked to is fine, but a large chunk of our fanbase spent most of last season contorting themselves into new negative positions about pretty much anything and everything. And then, shock horror we got promoted after all, and maybe a bit more patience was needed and various players who were written off weren't so bad after all.

The issue isn't a reasoned view on why Azeez may or may not be the right player, but writing him off as not good enough is foolish, likewise bemoaning the fact that we may sign a player from the championship.

What’s the point of a forum if everyone has the same opinion. The whole point is for discussion. Not everyone will agree and that’s okay.

I can see both sides …. Last time we shopped at championship level we failed spectacularly in the PL. equally, a couple of players from the championship might be okay, depending on the numbers leaving.

Point is, not everyone is going to agree with you.

My wider observation about our approach to recruitment this year is that we do need to be signing a different kind/ type of player to that which we have signed previously.

'If' our target is to genuinely give it a go at staying up.

I've posted on here (and before) about DCL and BB from Leeds and Sunderland respectively. That is the kind of level we need to be aiming at, at the very least.

With the greatest respect - we don't really find that in the Championship. I've tried to be objective below - if we pick up a player or two from Championship, alongside higher quality signings, from a squad/development/resale perspective - that approach I can get behind.

I don't think anyone can question that if we do what we did before, we are also likely to fail again.
